Apparently ratings went up again for the third straight week. Pretty amazing. I'm so glad I'm not the only one hooked on this damn show.

That episode was probably one of the most enjoyable 42 minutes I have seen on TV in awhile. Or maybe even ever.
Highlights: - Lucious in WHITE at the Bunkie funeral, WTF. - Cookie and Agent Carter tag team blindfold of Lucious. - Husband and wife Andre & Rhonda are getting more and more interesting by the minute. I don't even know what to say/think there. - Anika's oddly visible bra through her white outfit at the office. - Anika's weird ass ramblings about being a ho and wearing pearls. - I was seriously thinking "IS THAT NAOMI CAMPBELL. WHAT IS SHE DOING. WHY IS SHE MAKING OUT WITH THAT KID" Love. It.

And wanting the kid to call her "mama"... Mommy issues abound!
Damn, that was a good episode and the previews for the season look fun!

Damn it! I need my Empire fix already!! Loved Cookie's 'Blessing' and how dressed up everyone got for dinner- and the table settings themselves! The set designers deserve an Emmy for this show already. Seriously, when you aren't paying attention to the plot or dialogue, glance around behind the actors to the rooms and props. It's a stunning amount of opulent eye-candy! (Even the actual candy is eye-candy!) I can't wait til there's a scene where someone drinks too much and has to rush to the bathroom... because you KNOW the toilet seat have to be solid gold!
I really grew to love Jamal this episode. I was already kind of fond of him since he seems the most human, and down to earth of any of the characters- and yet, I wondered if beneath his seemingly 'normal' veneer if he didn't harbor some of his family's ruthless badassness. And this episode when he flat out told his father to his face that he fixed the song Luscious could never master, then split his apartment saying his 'Obedience is no longer for sale!', and THEN vowed to crush Daddy's Empire- well yeah I cheered out loud and scared my cats!
But here's hoping Jamal has the stones to back up his verbal threats and really does find a way to take down Daddy's Empire... 'Cause have you seen how his Daddy plays? It's pretty scary! I'm pretty sure Suge Knight hides under the bed and cries whenever Luscious comes on the scene. He's that scary! But I love Jamal extra for at least trying, rather than passively sitting out the family take-over which is what he was doing before.
Hakeem has Mommy issues. *Shudder* Not surprising... and at least his 'Mommy' is Naomi Campbell so the attraction is understandable in spite of the ick-ness they choose to add to it. But hey, ickiness aside- did you see the AWESOME pool table they were doing their ick on? FABULOUS! It even had leopard print pockets!! Forget the Andre-Jamal-Hakeem squabbling for power- *I* want to take over the Empire! Yes, I have no musical training, talent, or business skills whatsoever! But give ME the Empire, Luscious!!... Please??? (I'd take better care of your pool table...)
I wonder if Cuba Gooding will be back to write more songs... and dance around more horse poo. I wonder if Cookie will go back to confront him for failing to mention that Luscious owned the song he gave her. Poor guy might wind up with his horse's head as a bed buddy. Or he might get tied to a chair and forced to watch an endless loop of Snow Dogs! Cookie is way scarier than Luscious!!

But you know that Luscious will have Cookie to reckon with if he goes after Jamal too aggressively. I think Jamal knows that too now. All three sons are turning out to be really, really interesting characters. Hakeem's "mama" kink was something I did NOT see coming. I was actually more shocked by that than by Andre and Rhonda.

I want to see a catfight before the season ends. I haven't seen one (in a non-reality show) on TV in a very long time and if there's one show that will go there, it's this one. I want fake nails to be torn and weaves to be snatched off. Cookie has already gone full Solange in the elevator already so please make this happen!

When they do fight, it's going to be glorious. Cookie will probably win, but Anika might pull a shank from her thong or something.

The melodramatic background music just doesn't seem to fit in this show. Otherwise - I really, really like this show. A lot.

The ratings went up. Again!I think we've got a full fledged phenomenon on our hands here. This hasn't happened since the first four episodes of Grey's Anatomy ten years ago. Last night's episode was a little quieter but I really loved how Cookie used her strengths to get Titan to sign on and getting Takeem to duet sucessfully. Lucious and Anika now know that she brings a lot of skills on top of her swagger. Tarji P. Henson and Terrence Howard have some incredible chemisty together as well.
