But Jamal got his revenge without even knowing it. He came out, just to be himself. But ironically, Boo Boo Kitty had set up the moment saying there would be an 'announcement' at the party. It was supposed to be her and Luscious's wedding announcement. But it became Jamal's coming out announcement... He stole their thunder without even trying! I didn't notice that! Makes the scene even better. The news about the great ratings made me curious and I ended up binge-watching this show. It's so great to see a good primetime soap again. I don't dislike any of the main characters (even Lucious doesn't inspire "get off my screen" hate though I want Cookie and Jamal to beat him) and while I wonder how long they can keep up this fast pace, I'm loving it right now.

Poor Poor Andre!! He's going through a lot! I'd feel bad for him anyway not having the musical chops to be included on the family album (But hey. They could have at least given him a speaking part! How musical do you have to be to say 'Up! Down! Up! Down!' 80 times?) But his Daddy's dying, he's not getting voted into the CEO position, and his wife is done giving lap dances to old wheelchair dudes FOR EVIL!! I was briefly afraid they WOULD kill him off just because... well yeah, where does he fit in the Empire if he can't sing and isn't being given any control of the company? Power and Music is all he knows and he's getting shut out of both! Poor Poor Andre! If I could find that magic remote and zap myself into your world, I'd give you a HUG! (Then steal your wife's shoes...) I legit gasped during his scene with the gun. Is it horrible that I had a brief moment where I thought it would serve Luscious 100% right to be the one to come down to the recording studio and discover his son's suicide? And then have Cookie and Rhonda team up to make him pay. Obviously that's not the way I want Andre to go, but Luscious was just pissing me off THAT much. I did think it was borderline hilarious when Luscious walked in, the morning after Jamal's coming out, dressed completely in black. Like it was a funeral. That was some "mother-in-law wearing funeral clothes to the wedding" level of ridiculous diva dressing.

You do know you can download the music, right? It's on iTunes and other streaming sites, including Jamal's awesome Outing song.

That scene with Hakeem going to Jamal's apartment and telling him that his coming out was the bravest thing he ever saw literally made me tear up. It was so sweet.
So enjoying this show.

My problem with this show is that I don't like Cookie. To me she's a bad stereotype of a black woman that should have been put to rest in the 1970's. Loud, ghetto and just plain nasty. I mean when it started, Anika was minding her own business, and then here comes Cookie screaming, "I WANT WHAT'S MINE." Ugh, I can't stand loud, common trashy people.

Cookie may be an over-the-top stereotype, most characters on soap operas are, but there are people similar to Cookie in real life and they deserve a place on TV as much as so-called respectable characters.

I love Cookie. She is a full tilt, ride or die, emotions on her sleeve, heart of gold woman and mother. A true lioness who will stop at nothing to protect her own.
Last night's ep was awesome. The first five minutes was just pure soap opera perfection ("Bye Felicia! Let's get this ho's clothes! ") but then we got all the great stuff with Andre and that magical duet with Jamal & Delphine.

This is where I have an issue. I think there are too many "Cookies" on TV, I remember that character from the Flavor of Love shows, "New York." Why don't we see black women on TV like Zooey Deschanel's character on "New Girl" Or a black woman who travels the world or who goes mountain climbing, a black woman forensic expert, or superhero? Why does it always have to be "a girl from the hood." I've been seeing that character since the 1970's, time to retire the "strong black woman/ride or die chick."

Is the pathologist/ ME character on Castle the type of character you're looking for? She's cool, smart, funny, accomplished and oh by the way she's black. I say that in the sense that it's one of those characters that is a real person doing a real job and it doesn't make a crap worth of difference whether the actress is black or white, it's just a cool character. There's also the boss lady on Bones, who is 'oh-shit!' smart, and the kind of supervisor I always wished I had. Ohh! And the detective on Major Crimes. I kinda have a girl crush on her. She's beautiful and damn good at her job. I agree that there aren't enough to match the real world demographics, but there seem to be more roles like that than there used to be.

Maybe Cookie and Boo Boo Kitty need to team up and run Empire themselves. Toss Lucious out on his ass.
I hear what you are all saying about Cookie and I agree with it all ( she has me conflicted) but the one who really bothers me is Portia. I don't know what the difference is between the two women, but I know it's there.
