American Sniper is a 2014 American biographical war drama film directed by Clint Eastwood and written by Jason Hall. It is based on Chris Kyle's autobiography American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military History. With 255 kills, 160 of them officially confirmed by the Pentagon, Kyle is the deadliest marksman in US military history.

The film stars Bradley Cooper and Sienna Miller with Luke Grimes, Kyle Gallner, Sam Jaeger, Jake McDorman and Cory Hardrict in supporting roles.

It had its world premiere on November 11, 2014, at the American Film Institute Festival, followed by a limited theatrical release in the United States on December 25, 2014. It received a wide release January 16, 2015.

At the 87th Academy Awards, American Sniper received six nominations, including Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Actor for Cooper.

Has anyone here seen it yet? The girlfriend and I went out to see Birdman - which I passed on seeing last Christmas - and got to the theater 20min before show time and of course it was sold out! I should have gone last year.

It was a decent movie, nothing groundbreaking though. Bradley was good but I just do not like him as a muscle man so that kind of took me out of it.

I liked it well enough but there was a scene where an obvious prop was used and it took me out of the movie entirely. I was giggling for like three minutes.

I couldn't get spoiler tags to work but I'm not sure if it is really a spoiler. The scene with his family. The baby was clearly a doll. I guess they ran out of money?

Anne Thompson, a film columnist, tells USA Today that Clint Eastwood used a fake baby, because he likes to shoot fast and he doesn’t have time for a real baby and its real baby problems:

“Basically, film professionals know that Eastwood likes to move fast on movie sets and recognize that he took the easy and less expensive route of using a fake baby — not even animatronic — that Cooper had to move himself to make it look lifelike!”

Also, Clint doesn’t like to use babies, because he wants be the only one on set who babbles incoherently.

I wonder if diminished sight might be an issue here? That Clint thought the baby looked real enough? I thought the makeup and the CGI buildings in J. Edgar looked awful, so I just wonder if there is a pattern here.

Could be. He is 84 after all, and I could definitely see him as being the type of stubborn old coot who refuses to wear glasses even though he really needs them.
