Son Beckett dies at 21

The Oscar and Grammy-winning rock star announced Wednesday her son with filmmaker Julie Cypher died. Melissa's team tweeted, "We’re sad to inform you that Melissa’s son Beckett passed away and there will not be a Concerts From Home show today. -- #TeamME."

Melissa had been performing Facebook Live concerts and offering virtual guitar lessons for just $10 during this pandemic quarantine. It's unclear at this time what led to Beckett's death.

This is so tragic but I really fucking hate how they ignore Julie Cypher in that report. Melissa tried to ge a deadbeat parent.

How terribly said. And I agree, waytoocheerful. In fact, I saw one report that referenced Melissa, and David Crosby as the sperm donor, and made no mention of Julie Cypher at all. The actual sperm donor was acknowledged and the kid's own mother didn't get a sentence.

How sad. Peace to Julie Cypher and others feeling the loss. Twenty one is way too young, addiction is so tragic.

Hate to be the one who says this, but Crosby's addiction genes won over whatever the mother contributed. Probably not the best choice of sperm donor.

I was working at a music store in Seattle back in the day when Melissa revealed Crosby as the sperm donor, and our reaction was "Nooo. Was Graham Nash not available?" Crosby's well-documented demons were a cause for worry for those poor kids, and we all hoped nurture would win out over nature. Poor Julie Cypher and her family.

My reaction was "oh, that's so sad", followed immediately by "so is he from the first set of kids she abandoned, or the second?"

I came here to snark about whether Melissa was abandoning any more kids, but wasn't expecting to read that news. How tragic.
