I assumed the charges against Jana were something like that. Something that you hear about and think, “Thank God I caught that kid I was babysitting at the end of the driveway before he got out to the road or I could be the one charged with child endangerment.” Kids are fast and sneaky.

I don’t understand her denying that she knew the child, though.

The only other thing I could think of was that she left a child alone with Josh. But surely she wouldn’t do that given his abuse of her. And with so many people on that compound, are people ever really alone? (That was just speculation on my part and I have no reason to think it is true).

I don’t think the Josh thing was it because they mentioned that he never violated his release conditions. If that had happened and Jana was being charged as a result it would have been big news and prosecutors would have brought it up for sure.

I don't follow the Duggars very closely. Has Jana never married? Has she been assigned the role of spinster aunt? I am totally in favor of women not being shamed for choosing to remain single but in the Duggar environment it seems like you're still saddled with childcare even if the kids are not your own because that's what God put women on the Earth to do. Am I misinterpreting the situation?

But, yes, denying she knew the kid is weird.

She has not. She still lives in the big house on the Duggar compound, I believe. Every now and then word gets out that she may be “courting,” but don’t think any such tales have been confirmed.

Jana is the primary mom to the younger Duggar kids and grandkids. She's also probably been "assigned" to provide elderly care to her parents when they age, so they haven't pushed for her to court or marry. It's also possible that she prefers it this way and doesn't want to get married and have umpteen kids.

Jessa made a statement about Jana's situation - it was "an innocent mistake." She was babysitting and a kid got away from her but was safe. Jessa is annoyed that the media is sensationalizing it because of "other family circumstances." A lot of people in the Duggar subreddit are suspicious about the timing of the news and think maybe Jim Bob leaked it the day after Josh's guilty verdict to distract from it. Which makes sense since he's always been fine throwing his daughters under the bus to protect his golden boy.

ETA - Jana made a statement on her IG. Child slipped out of the house while babysitting. Passerby saw the child and called police. She said she was not arrested but received a written citation.

And, though it doesn't say it, she probably had the usual number of little Duggars to watch, i.e. somewhere upward of half a dozen.

Jana's said she wants to get married and have kids, but given her family, she could hardly say, "I'm actually CF, love them but don't want them." So who knows?

Jim Bob Duggar is running for Arkansas state Senate and tomorrow is the Republican primary. (He announced his candidacy after Josh's arrest. Why on earth would anyone do this?) He has been denounced on social media by Jim Holt and Derick Dillard. The former is a former longtime friend and his wife Bobye testified in the trial against Josh. The latter is JB's son-in-law; his wife is Jill Duggar, one of the sisters Josh molested.

ETA: The primary was actually today (12/14). He lost, placing third out of four candidates.

Ha HA! It would have been better if he'd been 4th. "And, trailing in 4th place with 2 votes, is Jim Bob 'fuck-my-daughters' Duggar."
