I thought the Duggars didn't go to a regular church. Wasn't "the church of the holy basement" a phrase used to describe their home churching? They got together with a couple other large families to worship or something. Because, I guess fundie churches were still too progressive and lenient for them. Maybe they go to a church regularly now? Or did they just choose an area fundie church for the weddings?
So I guess Josh did pick "a girl from church" to experiment with, ew.

They seem to have chosen a fundie church version of Madison Square Garden for the weddings. They probably don't attend services anywhere because they might not be able to run everything there. JimBob does like to be in charge.

Isn't part of that huge house supposed to be their church?... and a tax write off?

Isn't part of that huge house supposed to be their church?... and a tax write off? John Oliver did a piece on televangelists this week, and he said that they do have their mansions declared a parsonage so they can write it off, I'm sure the Duggars do something similar. Aren't they part of some sort of church? Wasn't there talk of things being handled within the church when Josh's little bad-touch problem first surfaced? And one of the anonymous internet posters who had been spilling the T on the Duggars for years said something about Josh having to apologize to the church members for looking at internet porn. Seems they are involved in some sort of group.

Yes, it's my understanding that their regular church consists of several other Gothardite families who meet in a basement. But they do have weddings and frequently attend services at traditional churches, most of them Baptist.
When Jim Bob refers to church elders he's probably talking about the Board of Directors at Gothard's Institute of Basic Life Principles, the people responsible for Journey to the Heart and other fun-filled camps.

The Duggar family friends aren't talking about forgiveness anymore apparently. Josh Duggar: The trailblazer of deceit and filth. Here's another post by the fellow fundie family that throws very subtle shade at Jim Bob and Michelle and their older kids.

Wait. So Josh was still considered "pure" when he was only a child molester??
I don't even think it's the adultery and/or porn addiction that's pissing off the fundies. It's the lying. If he'd confessed prior to getting caught, they could have circled the wagons and had a prepared response.

I think a lot of people in the Evangelical circle were more forgiving of Josh's molesting because of his age when it happened. They wanted to believe it was because he was a confused kid and that he'd repented and changed. But the latest scandal just confirms to them that he's 100% creep. He made these choices as a grown, married man with a family who was representing evangelicals in Washington. they wanted to be forgiving of someone whom they admired, but this just peels another layer off the stinky Duggar onion that many of us here and other places around the internet suspected for a long time.
ETA I think they lost the majority of their fans after the first scandal, especially after hearing how Jim Bob and Michelle handled it. Their final, die hard supporters have to be asking themselves some questions about following these loons. Something's rotten in the milk.

Jesus must be so sick of these fuckers. I mean, really. Creepy, manipulative, predatory, misogynistic con artists. For those that believe in Jesus ( and I happen to), it's just so revolting to hear his name used like this.
Like they would have anything in common with that dirty hippie.
