NBC just won't give up on its Live Musicals. The Sound of Music was so bad it was almost good. Peter Pan was just bad. But The Wiz?. You know, this one they just might get right! The cast pics were flying by faster than I could keep up with, but I saw lots of people who are equally talented in both musical performance and acting. Well, lots more than filled either cast of SoM or PP. And Uzo Aduba as Glinda?!?!? ZOMG!!! SO THERE!!!

The Wiz is a weird, terrifying movie when I was a kid. Why on earth would you bring it back? Are there going to be NYC crack heads and the evil Twin Towers? What about the exploited factory workers dance number?

The movie with Diana Ross is quite a bit different from the original stage version, I think. I love the music and was super excited when they announced Stephanie Mills is going to be in it. I'm looking forward to it.
I agree the movie is super creepy and weird, starting with the graffiti munchkins pulling themselves off the walls all the way to those giant costumes the factory workers are wearing until they unzip and dance around in bikinis.

Oh okay. Good to know the movie went off the rails and the play isn't as insane, lol.

It was those... things in the Subway scene. Shiver.
When is this acutally airing? And is it in competition with FOX's live version of Grease? And will Oh, Calcutta! be the next holiday musical?

The Wiz is on December 3rd, and Grease on Fox is at the end of January. I like your thinking for next year! NBC has the rights for Music Man, which was the original plan for this year, so that may be next year's show. I can't remember if they've picked up the rights to anything else yet. And I'm pretty sure Fox picked up rights for another show, but I can't remember what it was.

Bumping the thread.
If anyone walked past my apartment a few minutes ago, they got to hear me belting out Brand New Day. That song is so awesome. I'd forgotten just how great the music in this show is.

I'd never seen The Wiz live, so had nothing to compare this version with. I liked it. I loved Brand New Day. Breaking for commercials every 10 minutes sucked, but that's regular tv for you.

That was a million times better than Peter Pan, though I admit I started to fade towards the end. I guess three hours with commercials every few minutes is a bit much for me (though I'm guessing most of the commercials were for set changes).

I read something about Twitter being abuzz with complaints about no white cast members, but isn't that The Wiz's thing? It was an all black cast?
