DBL post: Liev and Naomi call it quits after 11 years together..... I don't think it's a surprise, but it still makes me sad. Didn't someone just mention these two (maybe in the Angelina thread?) as a couple to put on divorce watch since they just made a movie together?? Interesting...

If this is still a pool thread, Im calling Keith and Nicole based on this DM story. Full of blerghy quotes like "We just love being together, more than anything" and "We're best friends and we love doing everything together - we're the priority" and "Everything else comes after that"

Do you think actors' spouses have seen all their work? Or musicians' spouses have listened to every song? I'm not being snarky, just curious what people's expectations are.
(As a reference, I wrote a newspaper column for 9 years, and my husband only read it when others commented to him about it.)

(As a reference, I wrote a newspaper column for 9 years, and my husband only read it when others commented to him about it.) That's a good question--I wonder about that because Mr Chonies has a lot of creative output and I don't listen to any of it. He's had a weekly podcast for years, and I have never listened to it, nor do I really listen to his music. Tensions were strained in our house last week because he and his buddy made a short film for a film contest and he was very mildly butthurt that I didn't think it was that funny. I had an earlier boyfriend who was a sweet and earnest musician, and while I was beyond touched that he wrote songs for me, it had weirdly negative side effects. There are other rules I've heard: writer friends often don't read each other's things, and then there's the boyfriend sweater curse. I think "misdirected attention" and "insufficient gratitude" are the most resonant. Anyway, I would totally believe Hollywood spouses don't watch their spouses' films. I don't know if it's a space thing, or an imbalance thing ("what could I give you that is equal to an album?") but it's awkward when someone is waiting expectantly for your approval, because there is no other option, really.

Interesting topic. I wonder if there is a norm. HGTV gets research articles published sometimes for work. I have two reactions in equal measure: 1) that's so awesome, and 2) I have no desire to read them at all. I write six columns per year for a local magazine; she might have read my very first one, but it's just as likely she didn't. Just so happens that we both write about subjects that are boring to the other, I guess!

Eh, I really don't have a problem with it. Were they together when the Hours came out? I think it's fine if he hasn't seen it and the DM might be looking for trouble where there isn't any.

On the one hand, it's the thing she won an Oscar for. On the other hand... it was pretty boring.

I had a job with an org that hosted film premieres. The directors would normally sit in, but the actors would usually appear and come out of the cinema as soon as the house lights dimmed. Its usually years bw being cast and the film release. By the time the release occurs, it was 4 jobs ago for the actors and crew. They've also seen hours of dailies/rushes during shooting. Im amazed anyone has ever watched their final film, let alone their poor spouses
