There was that flashback in season one of Chidi with his colleague Henry who bought those tacky red boots. Henry was Australian so I assumed Chidi was teaching in Australia at the time although I don’t think they stated that explicitly.

Yeah, I was just going to say that Henry and his Australian accent suggested to me that the flashback was happening at English speaking university. I figured if it was supposed to be the Sorbonne with a good Place language filter, they would've cast an actor with a more neutral accent. Chidi's most comfortable with French, but so many of the African scholars I've been acquainted with have been fluent in multiple languages, so I'm not at all surprised he speaks English.
I'm actually outside of the States in vacation and my borrowed Hulu subscription doesn't work in Asia. Missing the last two episodes of the show was one of the downsides to the timing. I decided to just spoil myself with recaps until I get back.
Alan Sepinwall's recap on UpRoxx does note Chidi's lack of accent, but he could go either way as to whether that's some kind of narrative clue or whether they didn't want to bother with adding an accent.

Most of the African scholars/diplomats that I worked with at a previous job spoke several languages comfortably--so I kind of figured Chidi was in the same boat. I even know some people who were raised in Africa, but speak English with an American accent because the people who taught them English were American.
I did love the "hot diggity dog" moments.

I caught up with this show over the last few days (yep) and have now seen the last episode. My God, I love everything about this so much :-D I do think though that it is another simulation; I don't think Michael can just walk among the living like that. Also, eventually they would all have to die again to the real good place, right? Or maybe I'm getting this all wrong lol. This series makes me so freaking happy, I'm with it forever.

If it's a simulation, I hope there is a sweet scene with Janet and Jason.

I am really looking forward to seeing Jason back in Florida. The dirtbag adventures he had while alive were just like all the “Florida Man” memes come to life. And I do hope that it is Janet who sneaks down to help Jason rather than Michael. I know it would never happen, but I would die if they actually got Maggie Smith to play Tahani’s godmother. This is a great list of all the Easter eggs in the episode.I only caught the obvious Cheers reference and the Google auto-complete jokes on Eleanor’s search.

The show has an official podcast now. It is hosted by the actor who plays Sean (Ted Danson’s boss). So far only one episode where they interviewed the show’s creator, and it was an entertaining inside look.

First few minutes 'sneak peek' of season premiere: linkOh, how I've missed this show. Ted Danson is a national treasure ("a Pizza Hut AND a Taco Bell! The mind reels!")

So far only one episode where they interviewed the show’s creator, and it was an entertaining inside look. I love the podcast so much. Each episode features a combination of writers, actors, producers, crew, and even one of their philosophy consultants. The episodes are insightful and funny, especially the ones featuring the writers, and I love that everyone is genuinely delighted to be involved in this show. It’s so happy.

I binged watched 2 seasons over 2 days, and OMG! I adore this show! Why didn't I watch it sooner! It's so good. And I adore all the characters! No weak links! Jason's stupidity could get old, but it hasn't, and it's become endearing. While I do wish Tahani (JJ) got more to do, Janet is my absolute favorite. My favorite sequence has to be her pleading for her life. And her repeated reboots, when she flops into the sand. I had tears rolling down my cheeks. I've actually found myself chuckling to myself thinking back on episodes. The trolley experiment? Pure gold! I am pretty shocked that they haven't eased up on, or dumbed down a lot of the philosophical rhetoric in the show. It makes you laugh and think. It's so weird, I knew going into the show what the twist was, and I was still fooled. I know that makes no sense, but months ago, when the episode first aired, ONTD had a post about it, and I was like okay. It's really hell, not heaven. Check. Fast forward, I'm watching the show, and I'm so engrossed, that the twist completely left my mind. All the bright colors, and cheery people had me hypnotized or something. I found myself devastated when the "real Eleanor" showed up. And bravo to that actress. She has amazing range. And Ted Danson is a treasure. And all the douche bros in hell? Love it. And Mindy and her 80s clothes, and love of cocaine? Joy! The only regret I have is waiting week to week for each new episode now.
