Us yankees have to remember that "liberal" in other parts of the world mean economic liberalism (free market with no regulations) not civil liberties as it does here and Canada.

Angela Merkel is really making a strong case for leader of the free world! I'm glad she came around on marriage equality. I will never understand the backlash against 'flip-flopping' in this country, shouldn't people's opinions and values change with greater understanding and maturity? It's one thing if your opinion changes at the drop of a dime (TRUMP), but I want leaders that are flexible and willing to change their stance when they are presented with more information.

I don't know if I'd say she came around. I think it was a purely political decision. She allowed a vote of conscience but she herself voted no and stands by her belief that marriage is between a man and a woman.

Oh well, guess she's still better than what we have in the U.S., the bar is set VERY low for world leaders.

Ireland joins France, Germany and Bulgaria, bans Fracking editing to add UK have yet to make a move on fracking, this got me thinking here in Ireland we were ahead of the UK in a couple of other envoirmental issues we introduced plastic bag tax in 2002 UK in 2015 I think Smoking ban in workplaces enclosed public spaces pubs etc 2004 we were the first to outright ban smoking in the world at that point, UK 2007. Sometimes we as a little country are ahead of the curve for a change.

Is anyone else following the Catalonian independence vote? I've been slammed at work, and maxed out with news at the moment, but I'm trying to figure it all out.
