Not only that, but if Northen-Ireland can get a Status Aparte within the Kingdom, you can bet your ass other parts will also want to apply for this. Scotland is so not happy they are being dragged into a Brexit they do not want, so if NI can set a precedence, they will want it too.
And then the mayor of London also sent out a tweet, suggesting Greater London might as well ask for that too. Especially considering the Brexit will affect them the most, and the majority of London voted against. So, hey, why not also make an exception for London, and pretend they are still part of the EU with all the perks.
In other words, the Leave camp are slowly realising the EU does not simply roll over and give in to the UK. And that the divorce is far more complicated than their daft politicians had made out it to be, as the EU are playing hardball. Shocked, I tell you. Shocked.

Brexit deal reachedit seems. Looks like some agreement has been achieved re Irish Border as in no hard border which is good but I'm still skeptical and will remain so that this will be practical when everything is implemented and reality sets in! Also Arlene Foster and DUP seeing as you want NI to have the same regulatory system as the rest of UK, can it be presumed you now be bringing forward legislation on abortions and gay marriage to match rest of UK?

The first hurdle for the Brexit has been taken, but the Brexit deal has not yet been finalised. This was all political, and the groundwork for the remainder of the talks. Now comes the other negotiations regarding trade and other stuff, but at least the first and toughest hurdle has been agreed upon.
Leave-camp will definitely get a rude awakening when they see how much the UK has conceded. Then again, the whole Leave camp was already rather shortsighted prior to the referendum. They fell hook, line and sinker for the whole NHS money debacle, which turned out to be completely false after the results. Whoops. Then the recent "Impact assessments? What impact assessments?"
Boy, they will be rather pissed when they hear their government has agreed upon to keep on paying until 2020, and the divorce bill is definitely way higher then they were told it would be.
If you didn't know better, you would have thought the UK is governed by a bunch of amateurs. What do you mean, leaving the EU will and does have a big impact on the UK as a whole? Nah, of course not. Everyone wants what the Brits have, they will never play hardball! No need to be prepared for this, it will be a cakewalk!

Houseshare idea to combat Loneliness an idea by MP Jo Cox before she was murdered, I know not Christmas cheer in one sense but a lovely idea and a hopeful thought. I think politics in UK lost a real gem in Jo, my thoughts with her family at this season to be jolly time.

This really is a beautiful idea and if it could be more widely implemented would be a wonderful tribute to Jo Cox.

After the discussion in the US politics thread about a pregnant sitting Senator, how about a pregnant Prime Minister?

Ireland will hold a referendum on the 8th amendment at the end of May once cleared thru Dáil and Seanad. I glad to see this happening, This is good news tho I remain concerned about proposed wording and how it will be presented. Sorry No link I'm on my phone.

The wording is definitely going to be key. They should do a simple yes or no but I don’t think they will. I also don’t think they’ll honour the Citizens Assembly or Oireachtas Committee recommendations but maybe I’m wrong. Maybe Varadkar will surprise me! Either way time to start campaigning!!

Best of luck Ireland! Y'all need some reproductive freedom to go along with your marriage equality.

If there is such a thing as a cautiously optimistic pessimist that's me. I was fearful of a narrow against vote in marriage ref and I'm the same now. But hopefully we will by June this year 2018 have those Reproductive Freedoms to go along with our Marriage equality. I feel quite emotional just even just reading/typing that. Varadkar statement earlier appears to say the right things link I shall remain skeptical its my default when it comes to any politician. But I'll give him kudos for saying this part, “We know that thousands of Irish women, women from every single county in Ireland, travel abroad for abortions every year. We know that women obtain abortion pills through the post to end their pregnancies without any medical support or counselling or supervision. So we already have abortion in Ireland, but it’s unsafe, unregulated and unlawful. In my opinion we cannot continue to export our problems and import our solutions
