So Catalonia has declared independence, and the Spanish government has authorized direct rule of the region. Does anyone have a good understanding about what could happen here? Are we watching the start of another Spanish Civil War? Here's reporting from Reuters.

Are we watching the start of another Spanish Civil War? Here's reporting from Reuters.I've been wondering about this as well. Also, don't the King and Queen live in Catalonia? No. They live in Madrid. ETA- I asked a co-worker who is from France what's going on, and he said it's like California ceding from the US. Nice in theory, but it won't happen.

I'm very slightly relieved that it was a regular parade hijacked by soccer hooligans, although soccer hooligans are incredibly dangerous, and apparently Polish politics are taking a turn to the hard right.
I'm still confused by the Catalunya situation. I applaud the right of people to stand up for self-representation and unshackle themselves from things they deem oppressive, but as an American, talk of secession makes me extremely uncomfortable.
The coup in Zimbabwe has also caught my eye. I'm not very eloquent today, apparently.

What is more troubling is the indirect snail trail back to the Kremlin with lots of political upheaval in Europe.
They have been very busy this year. Russia clearly is smelling an opportunity to strengthen their position in world politics, but their strategy is so incredibly troubling. They want a divided and polarised West. There are hints they've been active with thousands of troll accounts for the Catalunya referendum, they were also very active with the Brexit. Not either pro or anti whatever, but to simply spread clear divisiveness in the nation, so to weaken the country and government.
The Polish march is not sitting well with the rest of Europe, simply because the government refuses to condemn the right-wing elements that had taken over parts of the march. But in the regard, it does fit with the direction they have been taking for the past few years.
Catalunya is just a mess political wise. Even by their own regional laws, laid down by their own regional government, the referendum was not legal. All signs were pointing in the same direction, and yet they still went ahead. Not to mention the separatists act like they speak for every inhabitant of the region, even though that has been proven to be not true. And in the meantime, people in Catalunya are so divided that you do have people unable to discuss this objectively with each other as emotions are running high.
And Zimbabwe's coup, well, that was one I did not see coming. Then again, I think the sudden firing of the vice-president just a few days ago was the main catalyst for all of this. The rise of Grace Mugabe must not have been sitting well by the main party supporters, and this was possibly the final straw. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Oh marvellous there could well be a snap/Christmas election over here Ughhh! All this and brexit border issues that are not of our making ! Sigh! Edit: Deputy PM to resign which may avert an election before Christmas but doesn't rule out one early new year, we need stabity in govt right now too much needs doing and overseeing homeless/healthcare and that brexit border issue too.
