I just watched Belfast and it was very terrifying watching how much "The Troubles" affected so many Northern Irish. I studied this country in the fourth grade (along with Iran). I remember when the Good Friday Agreement, I remember crying and hoping this was the end of the violence and terrorism. Does anyone know how Brexit is affecting the border between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland?

Does anyone know how Brexit is affecting the border between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland? I'm not sure, but I feel like there has been such a passage of time that the border is possibly not the flashpoint it might have been? We used to take in children through this outreach program from Northern Ireland in the late 80s-early 90s during summers, and I was consistently amazed by their resilience with regard to their home lives. They just accepted that explosions could happen anywhere anytime, it floored me to hear them discuss it.

I'm absolutely gutted. I think in some ways, Jacinda was like our version of Obama. Adored by the left, but despised by a lot on the right. The level of hatred many had for her was unreal. I'm sad for us liberals, but happy for her and her family. She deserved a lot better treatment then she got from misogynist right wingers.

With Humza Yousaf replacing Nicola Sturgeon as leader of SNP today and likely the new First Minister of Scotland
Interesting ( as anti immigrant /asylum seeker issues bubble on these isles ) that Scotland, England ( UK)and Ireland led by men of Indian/ Pakistani decent ( for now) Rishi Sunak UK PM, Leo Varadkar Ireland Taoiseach and now Yousaf Scottish First Minister. Also people have pointed out Sadiq Khan as Mayor of London. It’s the first time such positions have all been held by those of Asian decent at the same time. I don’t know enough of Yousaf or Khan but I’m no fan of Sunak or Varadkar.
In other news. POTUS Joe Biden will be in Ireland North and South for the Good Friday Agreement 25th anniversary it looks like from April 11th to 15th I believe. Belfast first then South to homesteads/ relatives in Mayo and Louth. Dublin likely aswell.
