Is anyone still watching? I have feelings about this ending and I need to talk it out with someone. I am!

Spoilering this just in case, I'll unspoil once sufficient time has gone by: {Spoiler}I like the poetic justice of cutting off Fred's finger and sending it to Serena, but did they say why they cut his head off? What was the point of that?
I also thought the music was a little questionable. Playing "You Don't Own Me," jeez show, we get it, it's a feminist revenge fantasy. You don't have to hit us over the head with it. And I kind of felt like it took away from the seriousness of the scene. It turned it into something almost comical rather than being a very serious, and ambivalent, display of justice and comeuppance. I say ambivalent because we're not exactly supposed to be on June's side at this point, she's become an anti-hero who does bad things and whose character has been corrupted by trauma. Yes, Fred is getting what he deserves, but the concept of "hate conquers all" doesn't seem like a good thing. And symbolically when June was holding Nicole at the end and she got Fred's blood on Nicole, it's representative of how hate and anger can be a cycle passed down through generations -- which is how endless wars get perpetuated.
I did like the touches of him screaming, "I'm a man, I deserve justice!" and his last words, "I have a son," conveniently forgetting that he also had a daughter at one point. Both references to how he believes men/boys/fathers matter more than women/daughters/mothers. Not that we needed a reminded of his sexism, but still.
All in all, I think I liked it, heavy-handedness aside. It has felt like Serena is the true villain of the story since she betrayed her gender, and that the battle has really been June vs. Serena for a while, and will continue to be, so there's plenty of story left even without you-know-who. We'll see if June's plot armor, which protected her from consequences in Gilead, will now protect her from consequences in Canada.

I kind of wish it was the pinky finger so it matches Serena, but I understand why it was his ring finger along with his wedding ring. I don't think they cut his head off, i think it was the color of the bag over his head, it kind of camouflaged his head. When Fred yelled "I'm a man, I deserve justice!" i screamed at the TV, "Shut the f up!" His privilege was annoying throughout the show. The ending of this season is the first time I'm truly comfortable with how the show ended. If the show was never renewed, I'd be completely at peace with this ending. This episode was also the first time in a long time that the constant zooming in of June's face didn't annoy me. I actually thought June was going to kill Fred when she went to visit him in his cell, but I think that scene was her trying to move on like Luke was telling her to do. However, I think she lost it when he apologized and that pissed her off more and that's probably what started her plan for revenge. I was extremely annoyed with Luke when he told her to "count our blessings." Granted June hasn't done a good job of communicating with him what happened to her in Gilead, but telling someone, in essence, to "move on" when they're clearly still trying to sort out their emotions, is the wrong thing to do. June will never be the June of pre-Gilead, she's a different person now and I think Luke-June are done. I still don't quite understand where Nick's allegiances are, but I'm not going to lie, when he came out of the vehicle and popped his collar (or whatever it is he did), I might have swooned a little bit (and screamed "Yes!") Maybe Nick is a lot like like Commander Lawrence, he doesn't disagree with what Gilead stood for at one point, but does not agree with what Gilead is now. Somehow, this show has made me root for Nick and June even though they're both married. Where are my morals? Lol Has anyone read The Testaments? I heard the show-runner is going to try to incorporate the 2nd book of Margaret Atwood's into the show. I was wondering if it's already happening now.

I'm reading The Testaments now and I can't really put it down. I'm halfway through season 4 of THT. Atwood is a hell of a writer.

Anyone watching season 5? Man, I don’t know how much more I can take of June’s “seethingly furious” face. I should look it up, but is Margaret Atwood still consulting on the production/story?

I don’t know how much more I can take of June’s “seethingly furious” face. She literally looks possessed, which, I guess is accurate. In a battle between June and Serena Joy, can I choose to go get a coffee and muffin instead? Woof, this season is going to be annoyingly brutal. Also, totally with Moira when she said she didn't trust June with Nicole. The way she was acting, totally valid feeling.
