Janet didn't take any blame for it at all. She got off the stage and left immediately. She didn't say anything for days.

I still don't think he should have apologized about it though. This country is so stupid when it comes to sex. I agree. He should have kept his mouth shut and just let it blow over. But wasn't it the Grammys? And the first Grammys were he actually had a shot of winning (and did?)? I mean, for someone so clearly looking for credibility I can understand why he wouldn't want to miss it. I like Justin. No, I love Justin. Almost four years on and I still play Justified to death on my iPod. I'm very excited by his album dropping soon. He might be a punk sometimes, but he seems like he has a sense of humour about himself (like the aforementioned punk'd episode) and he seems like a nice guy. To me, anyway. I wish he'd hook up with Nelly Furtado. I'm bored of Cameron Diaz.

I like him. I guess that could be because I've never really paid a whole lot of attention to him outside of his solo album, which I absolutely love.
Although that look on his face after that infamous question about whether he and Britney had slept together was skeeve personified.

I love me some Justin too. He's cute to boot. Kind of a big dork, but damn, the guy can dance his ass off.
That "wardrobe malfunction" thing was so friggen' stupid. I still can't get over the big deal that was made of it. I don't think that either should have apologised or have been crucified the way they were. It's a friggen' boob, deal and move on.

This country is so stupid when it comes to sex. First of all the gimmick was about stripping a supposedly unsuspecting woman's clothing, and the look on Janet's face was suppose to be that of shame, embarrassment & shock. It wasn't just sex, it was more like a portrayal of rape IMO. If finding that distasteful makes the US "stupid" so be it. I'm sure France likes that sort of cr*p. Also, I don't mind seeing some chick's jugs, and I don't care if my dh does. However I draw the line at my kid getting a load of a man tearing a woman's shirt to expose her naked, sagging bosom during a sporting event. Call me a prude, but I don't want my kid to think it's Ok to do that to women. Topic: I think Justin knew what he was doing and didn't realize that so many people would take offense to the stupid, gratuitous stunt. I always thought he should have been the one to apologize since he was playing the aggressor in the act. It wasn't something sexy. It was something degrading to women. Maybe Janet likes having her clothing torn off but I venture to guess that most women do not.

I just thought the stunt was silly. Just the one boob was exposed, if you are gonna do something like that expose both boobs. Poor Janet just looked lopsided. Plus that...metal piercing she had made her tit look like some sort of prisoner in an evil dungeon. The whole thing was just distasteful to me because it was so unsexy and random. I wasn't shocked, which is what they were going for, I was confused.
But Timberlake didn't really have the sort of reputation Janet had in terms of pushing the envelope sexually, so I just assumed it was her idea. So it was her place to apologize. And even if it wasn't, his PR people were faster because she probably employs the same people as Michael who sit around dwiddling their thumbs while the Jacksons act crazy.

Call me a prude, but I don't want my kid to think it's Ok to do that to women. Hey, don't insult the French. I doubt their media has a major rape fetish. And I have the general impression that the coverage focused on the fact that a breast was shown (the horror!). Those who were very vocal with their complaints seemed to use the "We must protect the children!" line instead of talking about how tacky it was to mime an unsuspecting woman's clothing being ripped off. I agree with you there - I disliked the stunt because I found it disrespectful and thought that it reduced Janet to being like one of those helpless dancers writhing next to a rapper. Wiki (I know) talks about censorship of "indecency" in the aftermath of NippleGate. It doesn't refer to the incident being discussed as an example of the way adult sexuality is presented (aggressive man, shamed woman). I'm sure there were some articles about that but I suspect they weren't mainstream. The voices that were heard seem to have been mostly those that presented any nudity as something terribly harmful to children, inspiring bemusement in countries where brief seconds of non-sexual nudity on TV aren't enough to cause a scandal. The moment was sexual in the performance, but, again, I have the impression that the media coverage blurred things and made it seem like the breast alone would have been enough to cause the controversy. I would have had more respect for Justin if he'd apologised for misjudging the appropriateness of the performance instead of saying it wasn't intentional - I've read that there was a rehearsal, and what reason would Janet have to wear a nipple shield unless it was planned?

Actually, I think they look cute together.
Anyway, what's with all these Nelly Furtado hookups? Doesn't she have a man who's also her baby's daddy?

I'm sure France likes that sort of cr*p. Uh... what? Any reason you picked France or is that just your go-to country for all matters of sin and wrong-doings? As a European (but not French so please don't throw any "freedom fries" my way ) can I just say that the reception nipplegate got was baffling to me. I mean, it was tacky and stupid and a desperate ploy for attention and should have been criticised as such. But it's a nipple, y'all. Mostly everyone has them... And mostly all kids have seen them.

Amen stina, amen to your post. Yes, it was tacky and all and someone said better than I on FT, it's a boob and it won't affect children. Babies will look at it as food, while the older children would see it as that thing their mom has. Besides, no-one would have even said anything if it wasn't mentioned 24/7 after it happened. Of course it was supposed to "affect the children dearly" yet they didn't mind replaying it over and over again on every newscast where children could be watching.
