Finally finished The Diplomat on Netflix - loved, loved, loved it. Every episode ends with something shocking happening, so of course it ends with a big cliffhanger which now we have to wait until the WGA/SAG strike is over to find out {Spoiler}who is dead! (Except that Tory MP, of course, he's definitely dead.)

I love Brit flicks. They are very good at drama/mysteries - comedy for that matter. I am going to have to check that out. The most recent Brit mystery I've watched is the more genteel Father Brown. The Morse/Lewis/Endeavor universe is well worth your time. I used to watch Morse with my neighbor back when it first aired on PBS so I have a lot of nostalgia for it. I rewatched it a few years ago and came away with a lot more irritation at Morse. I would still start with that one. I love Lewis. I love his accent and his working class roots and doggedness. When I was first watching Lewis Laurence Fox had not revealed himself to be a jerk. He kind of takes away a bit of my enjoyment of the series. Endeavor is just wonderfully done. Each episode is like watching a mini movie. The production values, the period detail, the soundtrack, the camera work—all top notch. If you start with Endeavor and then go back to Morse that series looks a little clumsy, but that just because it was filmed from the mid-80s to the mid-90s. The pilot for Endeavor is not part of the Prime package. But do watch it before starting that series.

I wasn't a fan of Morse but grew up watching with my parents. I love Lewis and Endeavour. Love. I think you can probably watch the pilot of Endeavour on PBS. It is sad Endeavour is ending but considering we already know where it was going with Morse, ... I really thought Shaun Evans did a great job even though it would be a leap to imagine his Morse becoming the original/later Morse.
I came very late to The Summer I Turned Pretty and have been enjoying Season 1. I read the books after I finished Season 2 and will probably watch Season 2 but the vibe doesn't have quite the teen dream joie de vivre of Season 1.

MAX is streaming a mini-series called Savior Complex. The show focuses on one missionary, Renee Bach who started a charity "Serving His Children" She was accused of impersonating a medical person and providing services that she wasn't qualified to give. This story is so strange to me and something of a roller coaster ride. Is this woman a hero fighting to save the lives of hundreds of children? or a monster responsible for the death of a hundred children? To me the answer isn't quite as clear cut as it would seem. The backdrop to all of this is the entire missionary movement, the white savior complex of many of these people, the unethical way in which they force their religion on Ugandan people. Then there's the "No White Savior" group who start out with the best of intentions but turn out to have their own questionable tactics and are problematic in their own way. Has anyone else seen it? I'd love to have a discussion about the show and the issues surrounding it. While I understand the concept of white savior complex, there were examples that seemed murky to me, and I'd love to get the POV of others.

The Great British Bake Off is back on Netflix, and this season has started out delightfully. I had some strong opinions about last season, but it's back to being the show I fell in love with years ago. The new host, Alison Hammond, is wonderful, and the atmosphere seems, I don't know - kinder? Like they're not trying so hard to be funny or (worse) edgy? Whatever it is, it's a relief to have this little island of joy on Fridays.

Google an interview she did with Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling for the Blade Runner 2049 film. It is hysterical.

I haven't started this season yet, but the kindness and joy you describe are what turned me into a Noel fan in the first place. 2 hosts like that would cement me as a Superfan. Thank you for the update!
