I stumbled upon one of her videos recently when I was looking for gear reviews, and I absolutely lusted after the rack-mounted sun shade canopy, which was the first item she reviewed in that video. So handy in so many ways! Then I realized it cost about $1,000 and became depressed, lol. In fact, that video gets a lot of flak in the comments since all her gear is VERY high end and suited to glamping, but I suspect there's more than one jealous camper behind those criticisms. I don't care if she wants to bring a hairdryer camping, as long as she's enjoying herself. Nothing wrong with glamping! I'm sure she gets a lot of freebies in exchange for putting the products in her videos. She got a free high end Alaskan cruise and a free women-only luxury trip to Jordan.

I was hoping to get to Jasper this August (by air, I can't drive that far and I have limited time) to hike the Skyline Trail, but I don't know what the COVID situation will be like by then. Reservations open up in April, so I think I might try to book the backcountry permits I need and the campgrounds I want along the trail. I can always cancel if things don't look good. Quoting myself here because...I'm going to Alberta! I scored a ridiculously cheap open jaw flight into Edmonton and out from Calgary. Even if I have to cancel due to COVID, I'm only losing $223, and I can live with that. My mental and physical health are crumbling (I've been off work since February and go back in May) and planning for this trip is helping to keep me alive and somewhat sane. Anyway, I'll be camping every night except the one night I finish backpacking the 44-km Skyline Trail. I'm treating myself to a hotel stay so I can have a hot shower, a soft bed and room service instead of a dehydrated meal! I'm renting a car and will drive the Icefields Parkway from Jasper to Lake Louise for two nights before driving to Calgary and my flight home. I have 4.5 months to steel my nerves about the bears in Jasper Park and learn how to use bear spray and bear bangers. Aieee!

We all want to skate on it some day ❤️

How stupid, in terms of hurricane season, would a Gulf of Mexico beach vacation be the week of August 16?

It's not exactly on the coast, but I've vacationed in Orlando and South Florida a dozen times in August because it's the slow season in my business and only had an issue once. It was a tropical storm that parked itself over WDW. And I usually stay for two weeks at a time. Honestly, I wouldn't hesitate. I'd probably make sure to get trip insurance though.

Orlando is actually a decent place to use as a home base. There's plenty to see in Orlando, besides the theme parks, plus, you're less than an hour's drive to beaches. Kissimmee is also fun for air boat rides to see some nature and wildlife, and there are a number of beautiful parks and gardens in and around Orlando. Winter Park is also nearby and has some charming shopping and scenery. I say this as a native of Orlando who hasn't been back in more than decade and didn't stay long as we were closing out my grandparents' house, but I do write about the area for a client, so I know that a lot of the things I remember growing up are still around and considered things to see.

I live on the Gulf Coast, and I don't think it would be stupid to plan a vacation. You have a much, much higher chance of NOT having a hurricane that particular week than you do of having one. It will be humid as shit and will probably rain for an hour every afternoon, but that's all manageable. As Cubanitafresca said, just get trip insurance.

Oh yeah, the afternoon rain storm. You could practically set your watch by it.
