I can see the Failte Ireland campaign now.... Come to Ireland when you can, come by boat if you can and our artic walrus will steal or sink it and you have to stay!

I’ve just booked myself a not far awaycation for my 50th birthday just me, it’s my birthday and I’ll birthday as I want too, I’m hoping to paddle in the sea, eats big bowl of mussels or fish n chips and down a pint of Guinness with the seaside close by, as it’s booked it will be pissing rain that weekend for sure but I don’t care Its my I’m older today, I’m not cooking for me or pouring my drinks or waking up in my own bed moment! Wexford seasides seeya in a couple of weeks! It is also going to be my first covid world mini adventure so everything crossed stuff stays open regardless of rising cases/ I don’t get the damn lurgy thus needing to isolate at home/life laughing at me planning shit!

We got to go on two camping trips this summer, one to the North Cascades, the other, Salt Creek overlooking the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Both fun but very go-go-go as our vacations tend to be with a lot of activity. Which I like, but it's telling that my most treasured memories of all my recent trips are the moments where I just sat, took in the moment, and didn't do anything.
A friend was able to travel to Uruguay with vaccination and a recent test. So people are travelling, it's still iffy though.

I'm leaving for one week in Alberta on Monday, aieee! I'm so excited, but also scared shitless that I'm going to meet a black/grizzly bear on the trail in Jasper National Park. We went to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park this summer, we didn't camp but we rented a cabin. When we did our hikes I was so scared of running into a bear. The one good thing about going during a peak time is that there were lots of humans on the trails so we were always around people. And the bears in that park scare off pretty easily. We did see a mama bear and her cubs while we were in Cades Cove, but when they saw us they went the other direction. There were also a couple in the area around our cabin. There is bear spray that you can use if one is coming for you. A few months ago we went camping at a state park in Texas and I definitely heard a feral hog sniffing around my tent early one morning. I froze in fear and nearly peed my air mattress! I stayed extremely still and it eventually left our campsite. They have been known to attack people and have big tusks.

Is there anyway to back out without losing a fortune, since the covid numbers in Florida are so high? I know some places had more lenient cancellation policies for a while, but with Florida and DeSantis, I don't know if he's essentially negated them. I'm a native of Orlando and I wouldn't want to be anywhere in Florida in August, pandemic or not. I essentially have a heat phobia as the result of growing up there. Just popping in to say that we did go to FL, and that the August heat in Orlando was beyond my wildest imagination. I pride myself on being someone who can tolerate heat pretty well, but that….was insane. Oof.

Yeah, when you combine that level of heat AND humidity, it's beyond what most people are familiar with, no matter how much they usually like warm weather.

TTMR & I are planning a trip to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan in September. We were going to take a road trip to West Virginia (stopping in Pennsylvania to see Fallingwater, the famous Frank Lloyd Wright house) because we wanted to go somewhere. I didn't want to fly and I wanted to check another state off of my list. Sadly, with the Delta variant and Covid cases spiking, we decided it was better not to go.
The UP will be a good place to visit but it's not a new state.
