That King Soopers is in Table Mesa, the neighborhood I grew up in. I remember when they built it. We shopped there. It's large, but there's nothing special about it. Except some idiot with a gun decided to shoot it up. I'm very sad for Boulder and the dead and their loved ones. I don't have any new ideas about what to do about mass shootings.

The Parkland school shooting was during T**p's term, and also the Borderline club shooting in Thousand Oaks where my daughter used to frequent.
I'm so tired. Nobody needs an assault rifle.

I thought it was interesting that the shooter was 21, like the Atlanta shooter. Kyle Rittenhouse was 17. I shudder to think of the messaging these kids are receiving. It must be a message exclusive to young men, because I don't see females regularly shooting up grocery stores and other public places because reasons.

On Instagram today I saw someone point out that the Boulder shooter was safely taken into custody after murdering 10 people. And not too far away in Aurora, Elijah McClain was handled in a way that led to his death while he was apologizing for doing nothing wrong.

The Boulder shooter was born in Syria and has an Arabic name (to my untrained ear). It will be completely predictable how he is made out to be an Islamic immigrant terrorist and the white Atlanta shooter was just “having a bad day” and religion and racism were not motivators for him.
I don’t know what faith, if any, the Boulder shooter espoused and he appears to have grown up in the US and gone to a nearby public school.

To be perfectly honest, I don't give a crap what any shooter's nationality or ethnicity is. I'm SICK AND TIRED of these jackwagons opening fire on innocent people and then hearing that 'the suspect was known to the FBI'
Such as:
Pulse shooter San Diego Boston Marathon bombers Garland TX shooters - BOTH Parkland HS Ft Hood and now this jackass.
Hell, the Tucson shooter SHOULD have been known but the damned Community College apparently waffled on reporting.
The FBI has proven to be an abject failure in this regard. And how many times do we hear that this or that shooter would have been flagged as a prohibited purchaser but SOMEONE in the federal government didn't submit the information to the registry. So what good would MORE gun control laws do? It's just more laws to be ignored by the people who are supposed to be Protecting and Serving us.

I am with you - no more laws, these guns need to be flat out banned. Like the poster above said, no one needs an assault weapon.

It’s a bullshit because no one has the guts to do anything about it, or they are too busy lining their pockets.
Because here’s the thing - as pointed out above, no civilian needs an assault rifle. There’s absolutely no reason for anyone outside of the military to have one. You don’t need assault rifles (or high capacity magazines) to hunt, you don’t need one to protect yourself/your property.
“But the Second Amendment!” people like to cry. The NRA loves to throw around the second half of it: A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to secure a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.
Okay, so was this asshole in Boulder a member of a well-regulated militia? I’m guessing no. Not unless he is a member of the National Guard, which IS our well-regulated militia. The Militia Act of 1903 made that so.
Okay, so maybe that asshole was part of a “militia” with his buddies. And on the weekends they run around the woods and practice and swear they will be there if their country needs defending. Well, even if he was, he was not part of a “militia” because private militias and paramilitary groups are illegal in all 50 states (laws vary on “militias” between states, but no variance on private militias - all 50 states banned them). So if he did belong to such a group, he really belonged to a mislabeled terrorist group, not a militia.
So these dudes who murder multiple people because they “had a bad day” or who have a track record of violent behavior or mental illness but can still walk into any gun shop and immediately walk out with an assault rifle because AMERICA! have not been members of a well-regulated militia because they are not in the National Guard. The Second Amendment doesn’t apply here. The Second Amendment doesn’t guarantee the right to defend yourself or your property with a gun, it doesn’t give you the right to murder people because you’re in a bad mood. It says you should have the right to bear arms in order to participate in a well-regulated militia. These guys aren’t Guardsmen (and the National Guard doesn’t make you bring your own gun any way).
So...it’s all complete bullshit. But because white dudes don’t want to give up their toys, you have to just suck it up and deal with the fact that you can get murdered next week just going about your business - going to work, shopping for groceries, etc. I’m sorry your first-grader got murdered in his classroom, but Joe Dingus over there really likes the way his assault rifle makes him feel, and Senator So-and-So really likes the gifts and campaign donations he gets from the NRA and gun manufacturers. So....sucks to be you, I guess. Nothing to be done about it. That’s life.
Except we sit here and watch other countries do something about it. New Zealand had a horrible mass shooting, and everyone put on their grown-up panties and did something about it and about a month later assault rifles were banned. But there’s just nothing we can do about it here.

I continue to be enraged that little children now have to be taught what to do in the event someone wants to murder them. Just part of the curriculum. IMO anyone who can remain blasé about CHILDREN BEING AT RISK OF BEING MURDERED so a bunch of fucking neckbeards can feel like men is a completely lost cause as a human being. Since Congress is full of these idiots, we are going to remain screwed as a country.

Since Congress is full of these idiots, we are going to remain screwed as a country. Oh it's even worse than that... it's not just "what to do in the event someone wants to murder them" It's also teaching them that they may be sacrificed in order to save their friends. I mean God bless the teachers. They make it as "non-scary" as possible for the kids, especially the little ones. I spent my 40th birthday in quarantine. I spent my 39th at an active shooter training at work. And it was scary as an adult... though I at least had the benefit of a state trooper who looked like John Cena with magnificent forearms doing the training. Not sure that 6 year olds care too much about that.. My team mates and I felt sort of well suited to handle a shooter since we are often put into wacky situations in peoples homes. I actually asked " so is there a place we should be aiming for when swinging a heavy object at them? The cop looked at me and said "actually yes, aim from low to high with that item and you want to aim for the head, their arms will go up as a natural defense leaving the gun not pointing at you" And my response was "then you shove a letter opener in their neck?" And he looked at the room and said " If there's ever a shooter in this building... find HER. She will get you out alive" And while my first grader was raised on the ID channel, and enjoys British murder mysteries.. I don't want her swinging a desk chair at a shooter and stabbing him in the neck. We should be getting rid of assault style weapons now.
