This. I just don't get that being your go to comment to someone you don't like online. But people do this all the time on social media. It's a caldron of false intimacy where people think they know you through your posts or people who dislike you thinking that it's cool to troll. I've never understood talking to people you don't like, or following people you can't stand. I avoid dealing with people I don't like and interacting with them.

I saw a meme that said, "It's only cancel culture if it comes from the Cancelle region of France. Otherwise it's just sparkling consequences."

I didn't really see anyone on social media (at least Twitter) cancelling Chrissy Teigen. If anything, they called her out on her hypocrisy and her meanness, but they never said to stop buying her products (was it Target or Macy's that decided not to renew her contract?). The one smart thing Chrissy has done since all of that came to light was not post on social media once she apologized. She hasn't been on Twitter or Instagram. She used to post stories all the time on Instagram, it's now complete silence. I still see posts from John of the family so it's not like they've completely disappeared.
This controvery of Chrissy's was bad timing though, didn't she and Kris Jenner develop a brand of cleaning products? Since Chrissy's social media has gone silent for a month now, I haven't seen any advertisements from it (I have all the Kardashians blocked on my social media. My friends follow them even though I don't, so their feeds always inevitably ended up on my feed. Blocking them was the only way to stop it). Maybe it's Kris doing all the marketing now?
I hope Chrissy really is looking deep inside herself because I still don't understand how a 26-year old could tell a 16-year old to kill herself when there was clearly some form of abuse there. When a 16 year old marries a 50-year old, my brain automatically goes to how was she raised and how did she get here, instead of "hahahahaha go kill yourself" (I'm paraphrasing), but you truly have to be an awful person to go there.

Yeah, I see your point and I know that it's now almost become "trendy" to hate cancel culture. My problems with it are about hypocrisy and the immediate hot takes, the lack of critical thinking, the herd mentality. People jump on the #cancelled bandwagon without context just to be in on something. The mob mentality is real and stupid. When cancel culture shows up for the right reasons, I'm with it. But be all about it. If you're cancelling someone for once shaking hands with Epstein, cancel your faves too. CALL THEM ALL OUT.
And no, most people don't actually get cancelled because money, fame, lots of fans to see them through the temporary madness. Like cabbagekid says, Chrissy isn't really cancelled. She'll come back in a bit and all will go on as before. What happened with all the #metoo cancellations? They're still working, a little under the radar but whose careers really got "cancelled"?

I was just reading a couple days ago that Kris has taken everything over. CT’s scandal tanked their sales so it’s all about damage control right now. ( Can’t remember where I read it)

OMG yes. I think this every time I see one of Lisa Rinna & Harry Hamlin's 19 & 22 year old daughters in the news with their questionable choices in men (the 19 year old is now dating Scott Disick) and over the top plastic surgery at such young ages. Something had to be very, very "off" in that family. I've vacillated between sort of liking Chrissy and sort of loathing her over the years. She's obviously a pretty insecure person. There is no excuse for telling a child to consider suicide, but I'd be in the camp of advocating that Chrissy get some help for herself vs "canceling" her forever over this because I think she does have a lot of redeeming qualities, just clearly a lot of work to do.

I think a social media break was a good idea for her. Honestly, she was scaring me a bit lately. There was a bizarre series of Insta stories she did where she was wearing a wig and said she was a character named Chrissy Gogurt, it was absolutely unhinged.
Oh, and her BFF Yashar Ali just had a profile come out and he’s apparently a big grifter. (I could have guessed that.) Maybe they can commiserate?

Off topic: Oh, and her BFF Yashar Ali just had a profile come out and he’s apparently a big grifter. (I could have guessed that.) Maybe they can commiserate? I read that article last night! I always wondered who Yashar was. He seemed to be friends with a lot of people I follow on Twitter. It was just odd to me. I couldn't figure out why he was so "in" with these people. He also has serious issues and should seek help. His tweets kept coming up on my feed and he talked about never wanting to wake up from sleeping. He called it passive suicide or something like that. He started this line of tweets like almost 2 weeks ago. Not to be a cynic, but now I wonder if he started saying that so people would be less inclined to bash him when the article came out. Back on topic, I do wonder how Chrissy ended up so "mean" as she did. Her parents and sister seem to be nice people. I wonder about John too. He seems too nice. Lol

Vox article today "Teigen" controversy explained Ouch. They really lay it all out there and give a detailed review from beginning to end. Even including a disclosure that John Legend is on the board of Vox Media. Double ouch. I look at all of this as someone who got so wrapped up in harping on people that were acceptable at the time to be considered hate-worthy. Donald Trump? Check. Courtney Stodden (in 2011)? Check. This is part of why I can't stand Twitter. People seem to think that they're in a vacuum when they use it and the hates/loves change sometimes within days and one couldn't possibly keep up. Unfortunately, it isn't and like a teenager/Mean Girl, you just hold on to one format and keep going with it. Never realizing that words have meaning and consequences. People have been doing this for decades where they take a person/celeb/faceless internet username and just start to actively belittle them. Giving excuses and reasons for their actions as if somehow justify why it's okay that they're making fun and publicly insulting them. Granted, a lot of times you're dealing with actual teenagers who don't know any better but surprisingly many of them are grown-ass adults. To me, there comes a time when you need to really realize that you, an adult, can't continue acting like a child/teenager and expect to get away with it. Say what you want in private, but don't pull this crap online and try to justify your reasons. It's only going to bite you in the butt later and you'll look even more the fool when it does. She would do well to just completely lock her Twitter account (not delete it, but just make it inactive), do the same for Instagram, keep yourself from attending anything with your hubby -- and just try working on making things better to redeem yourself. Then maybe (maybe!) you can return to public life a better person for it.

Agreed. I'd also add she got wrapped up in the support (as ill-begotten it might've been) she got. Nothing makes you feel more ~confident in your social media insults than getting lots of "LOL" comments.
