I saw a rumor that they were having trouble. Now they've actually broken up? Still just a rumor.

US Weekly published an article yesterday with an insider source saying that John and Olivia will be good parents, but their relationship is "imperfect" and "uncertain" and none of their friends expect they will be together a year from now. Basically, US said there's not even much of a relationship there and a strong wind is going to blow it down at any time. Sounded about right to me.

In Mulaney's current standup tour he's been discussing the decline of his reputation and bemoaning that, "Everybody hates my baby". Yeah, nobody thinks your baby is the one making a bunch of bad decisions, dude. Way to intentionally miss the point. He's totally the type of trash to blame someone else for his shitty decision making. But blaming a baby? Another level of shittiness.

Blame shifting is classic addict behavior - so as long as he continues it, we know he's still not recovered. That said, I don't think anything said in a stand up act can be taken as a confirmed sentiment of the person. Stand up is still a comedian playing a persona and not necessarily their most sincere and interpersonal thoughts.
Olivia is going to be on Seth Meyers later this week. Looks like Seth is prepping for reputation rehab episode 2.

I don't think he's blaming the baby so much as trying to make his critics look like bad people by saying they're hating on baby. And for the record, John, we're not hating on the baby, but its selfish parents.

He said this six weeks ago on Seth Meyer's show and now it's over? This man is extremely unstable.

He said this six weeks ago on Seth Meyer's show and now it's over? This man is extremely unstable. It's fairly common for stable people to get into relationships that fizzle out after a few months too. You meet someone, you get to know them, and the more you learn you decide whether or not that person is for you. I don't think that part says much about stability. The possibly throwing away a marriage for a woman who you can only take for a few months is another thing. But I don't find it odd that the relationship would fizzle.

I don't think that part says much about stability It's not common for this process to be going on when there is already a pregnancy in progress, or after a multi-pronged publicity effort has been launched to introduce the relationship to the public. Mulaney's situation is not about one or two questionable choices, it's a 15-car pileup of terrible decisions by someone who does not yet appear to have much control over himself or his life.

Well since most people are not in the public eye, of course the publicity effort piece of this is not going to be common. As for the baby - the stress that puts on a couple that is not in a strong place is going to have a toll - whether it becomes official before or after the baby is born. Some will ignore it for the sake of the baby. But I don't think the strain of a baby coming into a relationship that is not well established is all that uncommon.
