It feels like the A Star Is Born thread has been on the top of the movies subforum forever. So in honor of the trailer for House of Gucci premiering tonight I thought I would start a thread for it. I don’t know about awards, but it looks like a lot of fun to me. Can’t wait.

Those over-the-top Italian accents are killing me dead! I'm totally gonna watch this, even if it just ends up being for camp value.

Anything with Adam Driver is a win for me!

It does ready campy (Why is Jared Leto playing that character?) but it does look like lots of fun, and I really, really, really want Ridley Scott (he of Alien, Blade Runner, Thelma and Louise, Gladiator, Black Hawk Down, and lesser works American Gangster, A Good Year and Matchstick Men) to win a competitive Director Oscar.
It certainly will be in the conversation for the costumes, production design and the performances.

I am so there for it! (and I think it's time I started using my vintage Gucci weekender bag again)

It looks like it's going to be a gigantic wheel of cheddar, and campy as all get out. Should be fun.

I went to see it with Lil' Ladybug on Saturday. Overall it was fine, but oftentimes if felt like Adam Driver was in a different movie than everyone else. He was the least campy. Jared Leto was almost too campy, verging on cartoonish in some scenes. But he got a lot of laughs. Lady Gaga did not hold back, she was all over the place and hammed it up in many scenes. The tone of the movie was strange, almost as if it didn't know what it wanted to be. It was certainly campy at times. It was historical, going into a bit about the history of the Gucci label and family. But at the center of it, you know that a murder is coming, so it feels weird to have this jokey tone. There's a lot of set up but the main action happens in the last 45 minutes of the film.
