Side note: this mini-trend of celebrity children going to rigorous colleges is a bright spot against the recent nepo-baby invasion in entertainment. Whatever I think of their work or personas, I commend Madonna, Angelina Jolie, Eminem, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Katie Holmes for encouraging their children to seek post-secondary education (that's not USC*). Obviously, they had immense privilege that helped them be in a position to become desirable candidates, won't struggle while attending, and can study whatever they want without regard to job prospects after graduation. But being at those institutions in the first place at least exposes them to people and places they would not have otherwise encountered. * Nothing against USC. It's become a lot more academically competitive in the past 20 or so years, the Varsity Blues scandal notwithstanding. But it also seems to be the de rigeur choice for many celeb kids if they go to college at all. I see what you're saying about nepo babies attending college away from LA/NYC, but trust that most, if not all, of them will wind up in the Industry in some fashion. The upside is that their bubble will be somewhat larger because of their college experiences.

I just finished the new biography on Stanley Kubrick, and our clammy savior was one of five people who spoke at Kubrick's very private funeral in March 1999. Even his friend and movie producer thought it was odd that Tom got to speak and even be a pallbearer despite only working with Kubrick on one movie. I would've loved to be a fly on the wall for whatever he said there.
Also, it's sad that Vivian Kubrick is a Scientologist and is deep into QAnon and anti-Semitic conspiracy theories (her father was Jewish, so that's so terrible). She was allowed to go to the funeral and had a Scientology minder and she complained of a painful back from an injury in a past life 10,000 years ago. *sigh*
Cults: not even once.

Looks like his daughter joined scientology in 1995, which would probably explain Tom's presence at the funeral. She seems like she has some mental health issues that, being a scientologist, have probably gone untreated for decades.

Tom was in Eyes Wide Shut and rode in Steven Spielberg's private plane along with Nicole Kidman. Vivian joined Scientology without Tom's influence.

I meant that her involvement in scientology would make her more likely to want Tom cruise to speak at his funeral despite him only being in one of her father's movies.

I can imagine it being a bargaining point between the Scienos and the family: We'll let Vivian go to the event if Tom can speak, or something like that. However, maybe Tom grew close to Kubrick during the filming of Eyes Wide Shut, in that way that people do when involved in a lengthy and complex project. Plus he was a giant movie star and it may have been considered a big an honor to have him involved.

The extent that Vivian's involvement in Scientology influenced Tom Cruise being there may be overstated. Again, Tom was in the last movie Stanley directed and flew in with Steven Spielberg's plane.

Suri graduated high school yesterday. Tom was at the Eras tour in London. She's better off without him, but what an asshole. link
