Adding to the difficulty, the camera operator had to do the same jump as Cruise … but backward and with a giant camera on top of his head. Then he had to pull focus while freefalling from 25,000 feet in the air – not to mention that Cruise had to hit a mark of exactly three feet from the camera, lest the shot look about as clear as amateur Bigfoot photography. And there’s footage of all this because a second camera guy shot at least one jump for the behind-the-scenes features.

Why isn’t this guy getting the multi-million dollar paychecks? Jeez Louise.

That camera operator better have received hazard pay AND five points of the gross of this movie! Holy shit that is so dangerous, he could’ve died!

Again, like so many of the “I do my own stunts” gimmick, this is not about Tom Cruise trying to get a great shot for the movie, this is just about stroking his ego at this point. He wants to prove that he is still an alpha male, that he can do all these insanely physical stunts which are very dangerous, even into his 50s (he turns 60 this July).

Unfortunately, the liability of such practical stunts with no stuntman/stuntmen is because (1) they could kill the main star of the movie and the movie could be unreleasable, (2) jack up the insurance rates on the movie because of (1), (3) increases the budget which will need to be recouped which can’t happen if (1) occurs, and (4) endangers the lives of other crew members. Is this worth it if ONE mistake causes the loss of life?

This is no longer looking like bravery or toughness, it is looking like hubris, like Icarus. I’m glad no one seriously got hurt, but if Tom Cruise gets hurt or worse, what happens to the movie(s)?

There's Tom looking ridiculous again. They spent how much on that shot? Why couldn't they do the shot in the wind tunnel they built instead of wasting time/money and risking a cameraman's life going up day after day after day?

That’s why when he’s standing on a wing of an airplane he’s always alone, he doesn’t want anyone there next to him for scale."

Now, I usually don't like making fun of a physical condition that he doesn't have control over; unfortunately the world is rough for shorter men that is deeply unfair. However, Cruise's obsession with trying to look taller is profoundly insecure and pathetic at this point. Also, I'm relived he wasn't nominated for a Best Actor Oscar. *Nelson Muntz laugh

I was looking at his face in these recent pictures (scroll all the way to the bottom for Tom) and I can't figure out what's going on. He looks good but he doesn't quite look like himself. It's definitely not an overly stretched or filler "pillow face" look, but something is different. In the second pic, I think he looks more like Jerry O'Connell than himself.

I see he still likes his shoes with lifts.

It's this part of the speech that was really shocking and frankly deserved. Though honestly I think Suri is better off without him as he is:

“Every time he does one of these new stunts it does feel like an ad for Scientology, it really does. I mean, is that in Dianetics because there’s nothing about jumping off a cliff in the Torah? The only thing he seems to be afraid of is coparenting and antidepressants,”

I'm sorry, I didn't find the anti-depressant joke to be out of line. I'll never forget Tiny-Brained Tommy telling Brooke Shields that $cientology would help her postpartum depression than therapy/psychoactive medicine. Even Matt Lauer called him out about saying that, along with other lies ("You don't know the history of psychology, Matt! I do!"). That I remember more than the Oprah couch jumping.

Again, he was a celebrity I never liked, and was happy to finally to see him show his ass and become a clambake of embarrassment. I have the deepest sympathy for Bella and Connor, and I hope they can leave the cult and connect with Nicole Kidman.
