Oh no. I was looking at pictures of her recently and she looks like she's 99% plastic, and not real at all. I was looking at very old pictures of her and she was so pretty. Now she's like a vague image of the blonde busty big haired person that we imagine Dolly Parton to look like. I found her face disturbing. She doesn't look like a cat, or a burn victim, so that's a giant win in my book.

I just watched Dumplin' and enjoyed it. Nothing groundbreaking, but a pleasant way to spend the evening. The music, of course, was divine.

I have seen Dolly in person and while I can report that she is a beautiful person on the inside with enormous charisma, her face appears to be melting.

I didn't watch the Grammys, but I just watched the Dolly Parton tribute and I had to share in case you haven't seen it. I think my favorite part of it is seeing the famous faces in the crowd and everyone was *into it*. Beck looked completely mesmerized. I love Dolly. ETA: I just went down the YouTube rabbit hole. This is one of my all time favorite songs.

We went to Dollywood and stayed at Dolly's resort over the holidays and it was just wonderful. Her museum is incredible. And the dresses!

The group of Korean boys trying to sing along even though they clearly didn't know the words to Jolene was adorable. Her music is incredible, but some of those singers were not up to the task at all (looking at you, Katy Perry!) The thing about Dolly Parton that's always struck me is her incredible self assurance. Not conceit or arrogance, just a complete peace about herself. That's got to be so freeing.

The one thing that Dolly has that puts her head and shoulders above other overplasticsurgeried celebs is her incandescent likeability and down-to-earth charm. It is such a contradiction in terms: an insanely wealthy, insanely beloved celebrity that is as humble and centered as they come and whose feet at firmly planted on the ground (yes, despite the impossibly high heels lol). I LOVE that about Dolly. None of her fame, fortune, and public adoration has gone to her head, and she has always conveyed a public persona that is incredibly charismatic and appealing. IS anyone here Puerto Rican? Dolly reminds me of Iris Chacón, a beloved Puerto RIcan dancer/singer/entertainer who has been a local icon on the island for over 40 years, and whose big titted, big-assed, made-up-like-a-porn star va-va-voom sex appeal was balanced by off-the-charts likeability and charm which made her a favorite not just of men, but of women in Puerto Rico.

I think women like her- in some ways more than men- because she is so grounded. She has fun with her celebrity, she does good things with it, and then she goes home and changes into sweats and has dinner with her husband.

I think another think that distinguishes Dolly is her overwhelming gratitude for her success and her fans. She grew up super poor--I think having shoes was a luxury. Her dad couldn't read. She's not embarrassed of her roots and she's stayed so, so connected to them. She just oozes gratitude. I think with that level of fame and adulation it's easy to feel entitled and live in a bubble of specialness. She's just so genuine.
I really need to watch 9 to 5 again sometime soon. That was a great movie back in the day--I'd like to see how well it holds up to time.
