Yep, I think Dolly's the "real thing"; she's almost a parody of herself, she knows it, she owns it and she has a blast with it. I love the one quote from her where someone called her a "dumb blonde" and she said (I'm probably paraphrasing), "I know I'm not dumb. I'm also not blonde." We should all have as much fun with what God gave us to work with (and manipulate, and change, and rework and enlarge, etc.)!

I kinda see the way Dolly changes her appearance the same way I view people who go to town with tattoos and piercings - I don't think it is so much a body image problem the way I think it is for many people who get plastic surgery, but I think it is the way she has decided to express herself. That's why it doesn't bother me - she's not trying to pass it off as her own, and it is meant to be over the top - not just a botched Tori Spelling nose job kinda thing.
Some people express themselves by covering their bodies with tattoos, or getting a mohawk, or piercing every available surface. Dolly does it with big boobs and big hair. This is a woman who grew up admiring the town wh*re for her looks. She knows it is crazy and over the top, she doesn't try to pass it off as natural, and she's just having fun with it.
I also like that even though she's has a great outlook on life, she'll openly discuss the periods in her life where she felt down in the dumps, when she was struggling with her weight (when she got kinda heavy in the 80s), and how she pulled through it. I like that someone like that can say that even she has had periods in her life where she just wanted to stay in bed.
I've also heard the rumors about her being bi/lesbian or that she and her husband have an open marriage, and I agree that we'll probably never know the truth on that stuff, but the other thing about those rumors is that if they are true, both parties in the marriage seem to be aware of it, so I guess it works for them. Dolly's husband never goes out in the spotlight with her, so I don't understand how he'd be an effective beard, so I guess I can see the open marriage thing a bit more easily. But all the same, different strokes for different folks, and they've been together for 40 years, so I guess they've got something that works for them.

Now that we know she's OK, the jokes about airbags will commence in 3... 2... 1...

She's only 67? I thought she was a lot older than that.

Spinderella, it is so obvious that you only posted this story so I would post this clip of Dolly rapping about twerking and her wrecking ball breasts on the Queen Latifah show last week. Fine! And you're welcome!
