I think her fans have gone from attacking anyone who dared to suggest she wouldn’t win an Oscar to being like “It’s okay, prestigious awards don’t mean anything. It’s about the career.” That may be true but it’s a funny turnaround. I haven’t seen it but I guess the movie doesn’t paint Diana in the best light? I can see the British award bodies taking a big issue with that.

I was watching The Good Place and they mentioned Kristen. While talking to a specific character, the rest of them had to be completely emotionless "like Kristen Stewart on the red carpet". It made me laugh.

Every year, there are always movies that are hyped up as awards contenders but never make it past the Golden Globes because they are actually garbage. I think that's what is happening with Spencer. I haven’t seen it but I guess the movie doesn’t paint Diana in the best light? I can see the British award bodies taking a big issue with that. The BAFTAs have become an all-purpose awards ceremony, but at heart, they are supposed to be about honoring British films and people in the British film industry. Spencer is a Hollywood movie with a Chilean director, an American lead actress, an anti-monarchist message, and a script that distorts and fictionalizes British history. It's not BAFTA material in any way.

The BAFTAs were always going to have a massive problem with the whole concept of "Spencer", so I'm not even sure it's much of a snub tbh. The more worrying thing for Stewart's Oscar chances is the SAG snub. Means parts of the industry are not on board with the film and her performance.
And yeah, "Spencer" is the classic example of critics living in their own bubble and thinking that because they liked it the industry at large will as well. Nah. Stewart and Pattison have made nice careers for themselves outside the "Twilight" craze, so good for them on that.
Her fans are right that awards are a lottery of lobbying, fickle voters and trends. But you can't deride awards when your fave does not get them and be smug when they win them at the same time, LOL. This year's best actress field is a mess tbh, I don't see anyone among the supposed favorites who actually gave a really impressive performance. Nicole Kidman does her best but she's totally miscast. Idk what Chastain is doing there but I don't buy it. Colman didn't wow me, but that might be the script. Gaga is good, but skates a lot on her charisma and scenery chewing, she's also really hampered by the script. Stewart is good but falls into the usual mimikry that comes with portrayal of real persons, also I don't buy the concept. I thought Jodie Comer was very strong in "The Last Duel", but that was a flop and Disney dumped it, so she's not even in the conversation. Which shows a bit how much nonsense this all is.

One goof on Twitter claimed that Prince William blocked Stewart from being nominated for a BAFTA. I pointed out that she also wasn’t nominated for a SAG award. Evidently, that is due to homophobia. So at least the BAFTAs aren’t homophobic?

So at least the BAFTAs aren’t homophobic? Their entire fan identity is built around thinking the world is out to get Kristen, despite her being the bestest of the best. There's always a reason if she doesn't get the recognition THEY think she should. It's never just, perhaps, 'well, she was fine in XXX, but YYY was better.'

Darn it! She got nominated for an Oscar, I was hoping she'd be shut out just to see the meltdown by her fans.

I much rather Gaga got nominated than KStew. At least she makes me laugh at her antics. Ugh.
