I feel like Gwyneth found her level. If her mom and dad hadn't been in show business, she would have been one of those trust-fund girls that interns at a Conde Nast magazine or for a designer and eventually becomes an editor or fashion director somewhere before evolving into GOOP. We just had to be subjected to her as an actress for about a decade and a half before she found her true calling: making the poors feel poorer.

That's exactly what her friends/classmates did, so you're probably correct.

A while back one of the queens on Drag Race was Gwyneth for Snatch Game and did a terrible job with it. In criticizing what was wrong with the Gwyneth characterization, TLo said this about her: "The trick to playing her is to nail down the whiny, exhausted disdain she has for everyone else. She doesn’t go around thinking of herself as superior so much as she goes around thinking everyone is just so lame. She is a smirk in human form." I thought that was pretty on the mark. I think she's trolling us because at this point she is fully aware of what people think of her more provocative wares. I think she leans into it because it delights her to see people go berserk over it. She does kind of have a power over us in that respect.

I have to giggle a bit because none of this shocks me. Some people will absolutely buy anything she sells. Not too long after Shakespeare in Love and all the awards my mum watched an interview with her. Please know that my mum was thought of as extremely intelligent, and was top of her class in school. The following conversation between my mum and I took place. Mum: Look at how neat and slim she is. No soda and no junk for her. She knows. Always so tidy and healthy. She's like a bandbox. Me: She also is a smoker mum. I expect that contributes to keeping her slim. Mum: She probably only smokes high quality cigarettes. Me: ??!!!!! ??

By the way, Shakespeare in Love is a movie that did not hold up AT ALL. It's cute, but goofy and shallow and not worth rewatching.
I feel, as I always have, that her performance was competent and nothing more.

I actually like her in Iron Man, despite the fact that Pepper spends most of the films being exasperated with Tony. I think she has believable chemistry with RDJ. Never really liked her in anything else.
The crap she sells looks poor quality apart from anything else, at least it does on the website. I've seen better made stuff for a lot less.

I liked her as Pepper Potts, and also in Sliding Doors and Emma.
I always thought she and Thandie Norton could play half sisters. It’s fascinating how they have nearly the same face, build, even speaking style and carriage, only difference being their colour.

G.P. played Jefferson's daughter, and T.N. played Sally.

(Thandiwe Newton). It is remarkable how similar their faces are, except Thandiwe's face doesn't have the arrogance, the tired smirk, or the sun damage. Brad Pitt dated her a matter of months before he dated Paltrow. So weird.
