The trailer.Synopsis: I’ve been hearing a lot of Oscar buzz about this one. It’s astonishing how much Cooper Hoffman looks like his late father. Bradley Cooper looks exactly like 1970’s crazy-ass hairdresser-turned-movie producer Jon Peters. Any thoughts?

I saw it last week. I thought it did a great job of capturing the era with the most fun kind of nostalgia. There were a few moments where it started to drag, but all in all, I was very impressed that a movie I'd have a hard time explaining what it was about captured my attention so well!

And I was really impressed with Alana Haim.

OK, the million dollar question is: how does the relationship play between the leads? It does have a potential romance between a 15-year-old high school boy and a 25-year-old woman with a career as a photographer.

a 25-year-old woman with a career as a photographer. That's not really accurate--she works as an assistant to a photographer and still lives with her parents and sisters. Definitely not a career, more like a stop-gap job until she figures out her life. I've read some of the criticisms of the age difference, but without spoiling all I can say is it doesn't come across as a grooming situation at all in the movie.

Isn't it more of a meeting of kindred spirits rather than a romance (a la Lost in Translation)?

I’m just very aware that had the genders be reversed, would it be considered grooming?

Isn't it more of a meeting of kindred spirits rather than a romance (a la Lost in Translation)? Lost in Translation was different because both of them were adults and the relationship never became romantic.

I don't want to say anymore, as to spoil it, but I would say if you're interested, see it and judge for yourself.

I know it takes place in the 1970s and I just think someone would think it’s weird for an adult to hang out with a teenager. There’s another part of the movie that I worry will be rough to sit through. Is this streaming anywhere? I want to watch it, but not in a theater.
