I just watched this tonight and thought it was terrible. I like slice of life movies, but I feel at a minimum movies like that need characters that are charming and compelling to watch, which this movie did not have. Acting was fine, but it was unrealistic to say the least, and frankly disturbing. My teen watched it with me and she was disgusted. I didn’t even finish it. Putting aside the disturbing age disparity of the leads, it was meandering, pointless, and just flat-out boring. *yawn* I was considering giving this movie a try, but just crossed it off my list. Thank you for confirming my suspicions. I keep giving chances to PT Anderson's movies despite past experience. They get great reviews, and I get tricked into thinking maybe this one is different, and it turns out to be insanely boring and pretentious and I turn it off in disgust. The Phantom Thread was like torture. (I would like to think I have learned the same lesson about Sofia Coppola's movies, but in truth, the only thing that stopped me from watching her latest one was that I don't have Apple TV+.)

I usually like Paul Thomas Anderson’s movies, the only exceptions have been Inherent Vice and Phantom Thread. Maybe I’ll give Licorice Pizza a shot, but I just don’t know if I’m gonna be that invested in it. Change of plan: Licorice Pizza costs to rent, it’s not worth paying damn near $7 to rent this. ETA: It's Thanksgiving this weekend, so all of the premium cable channels are free. I finally watched Licorice Pizza. I had misgivings about the age gap relationship in the movie, but I found the chemistry between the two actors to be very charming and the movie itself comments on it throughout. Cooper Hoffman (R.I.P. Phillip Seymour Hoffman) and Alana Haim were remarkably comfortable in their first acting credit. Bradley Cooper, who played Jon Peters was as weird as I expected. Every scene he was in was gold and Cooper’s portrayal wasn’t much of an exaggeration. I'm glad I watched it.
