Both? We enjoyed it. Granolakid2 says that is the most Wes Anderson-y of Wes Anderson movies. I found parts of it unexpectedly touching, and all of it visually rich.

Yup, I'd say it's most similar to Grand Budapest, of the Wes Anderson movies that I've seen. It's episodic, so if you don't like, say, Timothee Chalamet, you can feel consoled that he's only in one-third of the movie and won't show up again when his story is over. ETA: This conversation, including the part about it being the most Wes Anderson-y, is pretty close to what's in the Now Playing thread. There's more info there as well.

Cool, the less Timothee, the better! I’ll check the thread out, thanks!

I tried to like this more but I think that Wes Anderson is kind of stuck in a rut. I did like The Isle of Dogs movie though. Of the 3 stories, I liked the third one the best. I loved the faux James Baldwin story from the food critic. It was silly but I enjoyed. The first about the painting prisoner was pretty good but I got bored during the Tilda Swinton parts. The one about the students was my least favorite. Everyone in his movies is so talented, but I feel sometimes he wastes them. Some of the cameos were so short as to be blink and you miss them category.
