I wish my hair was straight like hers. She's very stylish indeed, but I think she's a tad too thin. And I concur: She LOVES being queen!

She looks fabulous. She's definitely doing her job because I've never been interested in the Spanish royals before.

Her face looks softer. I'm thinking some very tastefully done fillers. She's definitely had work done, it was the first thing I noticed looking at those pictures. It looks like her brows are lifted (Botox?) and she's had some lip plumping. Anyway, she looks super confident and I like it.

She looks a lot more relaxed and confident in these pictures.

The gossip always was that Felipe married her against his parents' wishes, that he threatened to abdicate if he didn't get his way. Now, that sounds romantic. But the reality probably was that Letizia had to face a decade of disapproval in the palace. And the endless misogynist bashing from parts of the Spanish press. And having to give up a job she seemed to love. I'm sure Felipe tried to shield her and help her out as best he could, but he's used to the royal protocol, to the lack of freedom in certain aspects. You could really see for a few years there that she was struggling with it, how subdued and unsure of herself she became in public even though she had been so confident in her job as a journalist.
So I'm glad that her new role as queen seems to suit her better, I'm sure she's thrilled that it's more of a "proper job". And since her husband is king, she's not facing the disapproval, criticism and restrictions that it was rumoured were going against her when Juan Carlos was king.

In other Spanish royals news, Leonor had her First Communion a little more than a week ago. On Felipe's insistence, she had it in a church with other kids, not a private ceremony in the palace chapel. (I find it interesting she was wearing a school uniform - I take it that in Spain, girls doing their First Communion don't dress like mini-brides.) This also was the first year that the Princess of Asturias name was used for the awards previously known as the Prince of Asturias awards, although Leonor is still too young to preside over them.

I saw that. I thought first communions took place around Easter (at least mine did), and I did dress like a mini-bride!
I'm glad Felipe and Letitza are trying to make their daughter's lives a little less formal. I really like them as King and Queen. I had no idea Letizia was unpopular for so long. She always seemed to be hard working and really took her duties seriously. And from my perspective, she and Felipe have always seemed to adore one another, so I thought things were going well-- though his father seems like a total prick, and his mother really rigid. I hope they're happier now that they don't have to deal with all the parental crap.

Oh snap! Future family gatherings will be super awkward... Could you imagine Charles doing that to Andrew?
