I should probably know this, but what's the difference between someone who's labeled "guest" and someone who's offline?

If the word "guest" appears under someone's name, it means they've cancelled their account for whatever reason.

A guest means that the poster decided to delete their account.

Tipping my hat to the Mods & Admins ... I don't want to sound ungrateful or come across as a troublemaker. I really do appreciate this board. The snark is priceless. Something is getting under my skin, and I think I've been handling it inappropriately by mentioning it in threads when I see it. So I wanted to ask what the rule is. What is the stance on political comments that don't have anything to do w/the celebrity being snarked on? For instance, right now I'm sitting on my hands trying not to comment in the Britney thread. Someone posted a link to an article that both Topher & Oxynia fixed. The link goes right to a lovely little piece that is a total put down of republicans. I can see the satire. I can see that it's not really about Britney & Kevin. I also know that it would be completely out of line for me or anyone else to comment on the political misgivings in that article. So is that sort of thing allowed here? I know in threads about Jolie & Madonna, any colonialism discussions are swiftly shut down. I think the majority of us really appreciate that you don't want threads to spiral off that like. So I keep scratching my head at the anti-Bush, anti-republican (even sometimes "ashamed to be American") comments I see so often. I can understand why one would expect to see conservative bashing in the Coulter, Limbaugh & Olberman threads. I avoid those threads because I'm not going to argue politics on such a fun, gossip board. I'm sure you guys wouldn't want that. I'm just wondering what the protocol is, and I also want to apologize if I've been out of line bringing it up. Thank you guys! Crabby edited to fix the spelling of Oxy's name. *blush*

You're not out of line to bring up any question or concern here.
As for that article that was linked to about saving Britney's marriage, I didn't read it, just checked to make sure the link was working once I fixed the tags. It was referring to Britney's marriage so regardless of its editorial perspective, it seems topic-related.
We shut down the politics thread so politics as a wholesale subject isn't part of the board. There have been political comments in some of the threads in light of the recent election and also in the feminism thread where politics affect the subject, but we keep an eye on it to ensure it doesn't derail a conversation. Beyond that, when people start morphing threads into political debates entirely, we step in and get people back to topic. But an occasional comment here or there isn't an issue for us as long as it's related to the thread topic, isn't negatively directed at another poster and isn't potentially inflammatory.
We welcome points of view from every corner, be it conservative or liberal or any point in between. We can't control whether most posters fall into one category or another, so if it seems there is a disproportionate amount of liberal attitude here, it's just the makeup of the board's population.
If you feel personally attacked or ridiculed for what you post, definitely alert the mods. And if you feel a thread is becoming a political debate off the topic, either PM a mod or post in the Narc thread.
Hope that answers your question?

Thank you for taking the time to respond Oxynia. I didn't think you guys had read that article.
I don't know if that answers my question though. lol If I see a comment in a celebrity thread that George Bush is a moron, it sounds like it's OK for the OP to write that. However if I respond, "well then Al Gore must be a babbling idiot because his grades were lower than GWB's," I'm breaking a rule by responding, right? I mean is it OK for someone to respond to that sort of inflammatory comment?
Oxy I'm honestly not sure if there really are more liberals here than conservatives. It may be that conservatives don't feel they can or should post their POVs here.
Thank you for taking the time to respond. I really do appreciate it.
