Courtney Love

I used to be Courtney's biggest apologist because her music meant so much to me but lately she has lost even me. Her obsession with her lost money and her Twitter rants really repulse me now. She had so much potential and lost it all.
What kills me is how she is always bragging that she is 'clean' but when I read an interview with her last year she listed a boatload of prescription meds she is on...Adderal/Xanax/uppers/downers et al. How is that clean?
And this is why she is still bat shit crazy. Courtney will never be sane until she quits drugs and maybe not even then.

Courtney always claims to be clean. Always. Sometimes she'll throw in "but I did take some [insert name of relatively harmless prescription drug name] the other night". I think she just does it to give an air of authenticity to her claim. A few years later, she'll admit that she was smoking crack or whatever at the time ("but I've been clean for 6 months now...").

Also, I think it's funny that Courtney knows that had Kurt lived they would have had three children, blah, blah, blah. Weren't they headed for divorce at the time of his death? Charles Cross had people on record in his Cobain biography, Heavier Than Heaven, that Kurt had taken steps towards filing divorce papers and that their marriage was pretty much over at the time of his death.

Even Courtney has admitted in the past that if he'd lived they would have wound up divorced.

I dunno...I think they were so codependent they would've stuck together for several years a la Whitney and Bobby.

That's my impression too. They may have eventually divorced but it would have been a long drawn out breakup - perhaps after one got clean and sober. But yeah, they were deeply co-dependent.

It's not like Kurt didn't know what type of person Courtney was when he married her. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if he liked being with someone so loud and abrasive.

But having said that: I can also imagine a scenario where Kurt's friends projected their desire for him to "DUMP COURTNEY" on to him, Kurt passively agreeing with the stuff they said about her ('yeah she can be awful") and then Kurt turning around and running right back to her. I'm sure many (if not most) of us have experienced that kind of thing trying to help friends that are in co-dependent relationships.

I think he liked her loud, obnoxious behavior because he was able to hide behind it. He didn't have to confront anyone over anything. If there was something he wanted to complain about, he could just tell Courtney. She'd throw a fit and he didn't have to take any of the blame.

Courtney's been flip flopping for years over whether they would have stayed married. I remember some long, incoherent rants on hole.com about how they would have divorced and she would have found a new girlfriend for him. IIRC she suggested that he would have ended up with Winona Ryder.

Totally agree! I remember Kurt starting something with Axl Rose at the MTV music awards (the one where Axl went with Stephanie Seymour) and Kurt ended up handing the fight over to Courtney and she went after Axl like a banshee. I think if Kurt had lived there might have been more of an Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne scenario going on. Kurt still a junkie while Courtney organised everything to make money off him!

I think that's a pretty good and likely scenario, Yossarian. She definitely wore the pants in the family. I don't know where that would have left Frances, though, even if Kurt had lived. Probably in the same position but cut off. Would love to see Courtney as a judge on X Factor, American Idol, etc. That would be hilarious.

Say what you will about Ozzy and Sharon, but Sharon at least seems to be sane. Also, she hooked up with Ozzy shortly after he was sacked from Black Sabbath, so I don't think she was after his money. I think they really were in love.

I like that comparison! Sharon has addiction issues, but is able to hold it together more when she needs to bare her fangs/be a shrewd business woman. The only thing is that Courtney does not seem to have that smartness that Sharon does when it comes to selling out/cutting deals/getting paid while you're hot.
