I'm sorry... I know I'm way late on this one, but Steve freakin' Coogan? That guy from Around the World in 80 Days? Courtney's unfitness for the gene pool aside, that's totally hilarious.

Courtney's Mom has written a tell-all After reading the excerpts, I don't know whether to feel sorry for her, or disgusted that she hasn't done much in 40+ years to improve her situation. One thing's for sure, though. She was destined to bring the crazy.

Yeah, some of the stuff I am hearing about her childhood... there was just no way she wasn't going to end up completely messed up. Drugs at 4? Dad drawing on your naked body while on drugs? Parents remarrying and leaving you behind in another country? Most people would end up totally jacked, and people with a certain temperment are never going to be able to get over being treated like that regardless. Sad.

With the exception of Hank giving Courtney acid when she was little, all the rest of that stuff is Courtney misbehaving. She was sent to various reform schools because she was wild and violent. I'm not sure you can blame *all* of it on her parents.

Children rarely exhibit bad behavior that extreme unless they are acting out due to some severe trauma or mental illness. Kids usually misbehave (on that scale) for reasons. Something must have been really hurting her inside. I don't think there's any doubt that she has been really damaged from the get-go. Her parents probably didn't deal with it in a way that helped, but some mentally ill teens can often be really hard to love and support, due to the behaviors they exhibit.
It kind of seems like her family did just wash their hands of her, because she must have been a nightmare to be around. That didn't help. And I don't think you can minimize how horrible it is to give a developing brain acid - her father should have done time for that.
All that being said, she could commit herself to healing the wounds of the past, get a firm psychiatric diagnosis and go a long way toward getting her act together. She's old enough now that she can be expected to participate in helping herself.

But...Nancy Spungen never did that! That's not Rock & Roll!

The really horrible part is apparently her mother is some renowned therapist, counselor, something like that. How the hell does that work out?

Yeah, didn't her father make some public comment about how from the moment Courtney came out the womb that she was almost impossible to love? I mean, she probably does have some kind of personality disorder that drove her family crazy but telling a child that they are hard to love is only going to exacerbate rather than help any issues they have.
On to other Courtney questions, how did Edward Norton go from dating her to hooking up with Salma Hayek?

I'm no fan of Mr. Norton, but I can't see what drew him to Courtney Love. It must be the whole opposites attract rule coming into play.
