Live Through This is one of my all-time favorite albums. I think that even had Cobain not died, they still would have been incredibly influential. Nirvana, for good and ill, was what swept grunge into the mainstream and completely killed hair metal and all the other trappings of 80s music. His death, though, of course intensified all that, but they were still incredibly influential while he was alive. There was something that went with him. He embodied the sentiment of the times that fetishized authenticity as a virtue. Frankly, I don't think he could have gone on in as a rock star; I think that level of fame was too problematic for him. He himself said they were the Cheap Trick of their generation. He reminds me of Daniel Day Lewis as an artist. It's too bad he couldn't find a level of fame that allowed him to do the work he wanted to without all the issues (and the drugs).
That said, I have a grudging respect for Love. I know she can be a mess, but I will always appreciate her grrrl riot roots (although she claims that she wasn't a part of that movement, for all intents she was) and how she made feminism a central tenet of her persona. God forbid a female star actually utters the "f" word. Doesn't mean she's not selfish or has been an addict.

I find Courtney works the same victimology-as-"feminism" angle that generally turns me off. Also, whenever someone tells me "you HAVE to listen to this or else you have no taste," that turns me off. I didn't appreciate being told that I "had" to appreciate/admire/respect Courtney. Forget it. I listen to the artists I like, regardless of gender.
I almost bought Live Through This in 1994. Honestly, at this point, I've given the record another chance and I'm unmoved by it. The drummer is excellent; I'll give them that.

The Logo channel is running a soundbite with her during their video show NewNowNext and her face is unbelievable. She looks like Marlo Thomas today. She has a pointy thing on both the end of her nose and on her chin, and they both look like they're sort of drifting around under her skin. I don't know how she'd look at this age without all of the work she's had done, but it would have to be better than she looks now.
I didn't even really notice what she was saying. Something about how she sings but she's also playing a lot of chords and she doesn't shred.

Wow. Of all the messed up stuff Courtney does he dumps her for sleeping with a female supermodel well over a decade ago?

Yeah, that makes no sense. Why would he be with her anyway? Wasn't he with Uma Thurman previously? What a step down. More like a plunge.

I don't believe Andre Balazs would touch her with a 10 foot pole. And if he did, he would certainly be well aware ahead of time that she's embarassing.

Yeah, he's been with Elle Macpherson and Uma Thurman so Courtney would be quite a descent. But, then again, it seems that some dudes do like the gutter (see: Tiger Woods and Jesse James et al) and he is supposed to be a coke fiend so maybe ...? Yuck.

I've long said the only reason why Nirvana is hailed as the GREATEST. BAND. EVER! is because Kurt Cobain died. Had he lived Nirvana would have probably split up and just been another 90's grunge band. The only good thing to come out of Nirvana is the Foo Fighters. Well, keep in mind, Nirvana was the first grunge band to achieve break-through success. And then you had the whole, alternative, grunge scene take off. So while they might be seen as over rated, they'd still be considered pioneers. (Well, that and Weird Al did a pretty good spoof) I always liked Pearl Jam best myself. But Nirvana had a pretty good sound. Pretty good for cranking up and rocking out. I never had any Nirvana albums (I had Ten and Vs., though), but I do have some Nirvana tunes on my Sansa. Oh, and does anyone remember Teen Spirit? I used to use it when I was in junior high, and was surprised to know that they still make it. Topic? Courtney Love, or Paris Hilton: who's the bigger skank?

Paris. No question. A lot of Courtney's conquests are unconfirmed and probably a product of her drug-induced imagination.
Paris, on the other hand, is the town bicycle.
