Watching it now...and I'm wondering what happened to her voice? She sounds (and looks) totally different than 1994 Courtney. Was it the 800th nose job that did that to her?
And for a chain smoker and a drug user she still looks really good. Amazing.

There's a girlcrush gathering at Jezebel over her. I'm confused. What's so redeeming about this chick?

There's a girlcrush gathering at Jezebel over her. I'm confused. What's so redeeming about this chick? I was confused by that too. I used to love her when I was in high school and would defend her actions because I thought she was being misunderstood, but I think time as shown what a horrible person she is. She's gotten into several physical and verbal altercations with a wide range of people, is delusional (mostly in regards to funds being stolen), and even her own daughter doesn't want anything to do with her at this point. I have to think that some of the ladies at Jezebel are waxing nostalgic over their youth because I'm hard press to think of any current output (musically or otherwise) from Courtney that warrants all the love. While I usually like Jezebel sometimes I think they give a little too much leeway when a female celebrity acts horribly.

Absolutely. Especially when they say that "Axl Rose/Pete Doherty/Insert Named of Male Rock Star here gets away with stuff that Courtney's being slammed for."
Excuse me? Courtney is not a victim of sexism of double standards. She has won raves for her albums and handful of film roles. She once had a lot of goodwill. She's lost it all.
Oh, and the Hole album bombed.

There's a girlcrush gathering at Jezebel over her. I'm confused. What's so redeeming about this chick? For me, it's mostly nostalgia. People can argue til they're blue in the face that Hole's lyrics are juvenile, or that Clove didn't write them, but the first three Hole albums will always stick with me, and they were pretty much on repeat constantly from age 14 to 21. Nobody's Daughter lacks the magic of the earlier records, but there are a few songs on ND, like "Nobody's Daughter", "Samantha", and "Pacific Coast Highway" - "Malibu and "Boys on the Radio"/"Sugar Coma" retread that it is - that punched me in the gut. Also, she can be very charming. My eyes are open to the fact that she's done loathsome things to her daughter , but there's still something about her that I can't quite put my finger on. Maybe it's because, on some level, I relate to her, more than "beloved" stars like Sandy Bullock or Reese Witherspoon that's for sure, or that she reminds me of many people I've known and ran into through the years. I don't like her the way I used to, but I understand why there are still people who do still adore her.

The VH1 Behind the Music really showed what kind of massively screwed up childhood she had—and that most certainly has something to do with the monster she became. But, man, I have to hand it to her—she went out and got exactly what she wanted. She made things happen based on her sheer will and, yes, a large amount of obnoxiousness. Oh, and it didn't hurt she was the beneficiary of a pretty sweet trust fund that helped her travel the world, have a roof over her head, wear expensive clothes and inject drugs in her veins on her quest for fame.
Sad thing is, she hates her mother and repeated much of the mistakes the woman made in raising her with her own daughter. Poor kid.
I think she's still using and I think she needs massive mental health care.

This is the first time I heard about the trust fund. Must be pretty easy to become a junkie rock star with a trust fund

Courtney's past, origins and drive and ambition are fascinating. Another reason I can't completely dislike her.

Did it interview her parents or other family members? After reading the Seattle Weekly article linked upthread as well as her mother's book, I think Courtney's story isn't as black and white as she says it is. She had serious emotional problems even as a little girl. It sounds like they're simply hardwired into her, a la Charlie Sheen.
