She and Kurt were both selfish idiots for bringing a baby into their drug addicted, miserable lives. Courtney was actively looking for a "good nose" for her child (Frances appears to have gotten a bit of Courtney's old shnozz, so mission failed).
I guess being dead gets you off the hook for all kinds of shit. I can't pretend to understand that level of mental illness and addiction, but the guy was just as much a mess as she was. Who knows what kind of f'ed up drama he would have caused that child had he lived.

I finally watched that recent VH-1 "Behind the Music" on her and I think she is charming on some levels but her overwhelming selfishness and lack of responsibility for any of the crap she's pulled on people over the years (read any of the bios on her out there - if even half the stuff is true, it's not a pretty picture) makes me want bad things to happen to her. I have no doubt she loves her daughter and I have no doubt that she doesn't have the tools to know how to be a good mother. I think her stepfather actually says that in the BTM. I don't really like the new music she's putting out though. I like the very early ugly-sounding stuff. And I thought she was at her prettiest when she and Kurt first hooked up.

I don't recall saying Kurt was any better -- he certainly was no class act. But it was a tragedy, I don't think anyone can deny that. (No, I don't think Frances was better off having her father shoot himself) Courtney may be fucked up, but who knows what would have happened had Kurt lived? I won't deny the guy was a selfish junky, but it's one of those, "what if?" situations.
(I actually thought Courtney looked really great right around the time she did The People vs. Larry Flynt...but she kind of pissed it all away and went back to being a skank)

I know this is so crazy but after watching BTM...I kind of like her. I think she can be likeable! And I truly believe she loves her daughter but she is just so messed up that she doesn't know HOW to love her daughter. Still...she is a fascinating character regardless.

I watched BTM too, and I'll hand it to Courtney - she's been telling her life story relentlessly for 20 years, and she always manages to come up with 25-50% new material each time she tells it.
Also, how many people can fill up a whole 2-hour BTM? And it wasn't a scant 2 hours either. At times, it felt like they were rushing through some of her psychotic/violent/drug fueled public catastrophes just so they could fit everything in.

She's incredibly charismatic, though I feel safer watching her via TV than in person.
I met her first husband back in 1991 or so and he never talked about her but the consensus amongst his friends (who I knew better) was that she single-mindedly and openly pursued world domination from the get-go and didn't care who got hurt. Also "Bitch crazy". Also "crackhead"; although it's certainly possible that she's just manic as fuck and not using anything illegal a lot of the time. I have a friend who is bipolar and at times you would swear he is on allthemethintheworld!!!!! but I know he's not.

I didn't know she was married before Kurt. Huh, learn something new everyday.

Saw her and Hole performing tonight at Ottawa's Bluesfest. While most of her music isn't my style (I was there for Joan Jett), she was good at what she was doing and surprisingly composed and together.

Hmm, a lot of Frances Bean's work resembles Marilyn Manson's art.
