Well, Ms. Kate apparently adored Horseface, so what does that tell ya? Love Meryl. NO one has come close in the last 20 years to her talent and that includes the Translucent One(Nicole Kidman)

Horseface as in Julia Roberts? Man.
I know it's not a serious movie, but she's got great comic chops as well...I love Love LOVE Death Becomes Her. I'm not sure why, but I do. She's great in it. As are Goldie and Bruce. Guilty pleasure if you will.

According to imdb Katharine Hepburn loved Melanie Grifith, John Travolta and I believe Harrison Ford. And you know what? It'r great she despised Meryl because I wouldn't want her in her favorite list if Hepburn had such a poor taste.
Meryl, the question is, who doesn't love her?Not only she's a great great actress but she's also humble and extremely gracious which makes me very fond of her. Loved her and Lily Tomlin on stage. It felt so right they presented the award to Altman, unlike poor Anthony who was introduced by the pretentious idiot.

Oh dish, why did Hepburn despise her? The IMDb trivia I quoted above only says this: "According to Katharine Hepburn's official biographer A. Scott Berg, Meryl Streep was her least favorite modern actress on screen: "Click, click, click," she said, referring to the wheels turning inside Streep's head." "Click, click, click" Excuse me, Kate, but I don't see Streep acting robotically or having to think before she acts. She acts naturally and smoothly; things just flow. In fact, imo, she acts in a manner that is a lot less contrived than some of Katherine Hepburn's performances. Ahh gotcha. Yeah, while Kate Hepburn has given some of my favorite performances ever (like The Lion in Winter), she certainly has no room to criticise other people for giving overly mannered performances!

The Streep/Tomlin presentation to Altman was my favorite part of the Oscars this year. It was obvious that the audience loved it too.

It doesn't surprise me Katherine Hepburn didn't like her. I get the feeling she didn't like most people. Everything I've ever read that came out of her mouth made her sound like such a huge bitch. I can't say for certain if she was, but I'm led to believe she was a mean, spiteful woman. She seemed like one of those old people who would yell at you for being young.

I am a huge Katharine Hepburn fan. I've adored her for a long long time, and read multiple books on her. It doesnt' surprise me in the slightest that she wouldn't like Meryl Streep, and I don't think that says anything negative about either one of them. It simply acknowledges 1) How different the two women are and 2) how competitive Hepburn was.
Hepburn played the Hollywood game. She lived her life in a way that would maintain her star power. She maintained social circles of the Hollywood elite. Later in life, she moved back east, but in her heyday, she live the Hollywood life, and she liked it that way. Meryl Streep on the other hand has done what she needs to do to maintain a career as an actress, but doesn't really play the Hollywood game per se. Nothing about her indicates that she'd worry about what parties she was invited to. And while I think that both women are feminists, Streep's ways of showing it are much more reserved than Hepburn ever was. I think those differences would not cause Meryl to bat an eye, but would come across to Kate as very unusual. Kate liked people who were like her and she didn't get those who were very different from her.
Meryl Streep only needs one more Oscar to beat Hepburn's record. Hepburn is the kind of person who would have taken great pride in the distinction she held as the winningnest actress, and probably wouldn't have rooted for ANYONE to take that away from her.

Meryl Streep only has 2 Oscars. So she would need 2 more wins to beat Hepburn's record. But she already beat Hepburn's nomination record when she was nominated for Adaptation, making Meryl the most nominated actor in Oscar history(13 times!). Also, I'm surprised to hear that Hepburn was into playing the Hollwyood game. I thought it was quite the opposite, refusing to do interviews, not dressing up and going to parties. In fact I thought she didn't even show up to accept some of the Oscars she'd won? But I really don't know anything about her, this was just my impression.

I stand corrected on the record thing!
Kate wasn't really into the PR aspects of the Hollywood game, but a great deal of her life revolved around the political aspects of the Hollywood game. She threw away a marraige to a perfectly nice man in order to get in the game. Her social circles contained all the big names in Hollywood - and she dated several of them before settling with Spencer Tracy. Even in that relationship - both of them were perfectly content having a private relationship without ever acknowledging / needing anything public in order ot comply with the Hollywood game.
She insisted on doing things her way - wore pants when she wanted to, etc. But when it came to the hobnobbing and whatnot, she was far more Hollywood than Meryl ever was or ever will be. Meryl is more of a normal American who makes movies. She has been married a long time, has children who appear to be normal, etc. Kate thumbed her nose at the normal American way of life in favor of a Hollywood life of no marriage and no children.
The motivation of all of that may also lead to some of her resentment to Meryl Streep. Kate said many many times that a woman has to choose between having a great film career or a family, and she chose the career. Meryl managed to have both, and from all appearances seems to manage both very well. So maybe Kate was jealous that she accomplished what Kate thought couldn't be done?
