Meryl Streep

I wonder if Meryl's workload is a contributor to their split after all this time? She's not doing as many movies each year as she used to. Perhaps they made their marriage work by being apart from each other, and having more time together made them realize they were not as compatible as they'd thought?

Agreed. Given that they'd managed to keep their separation quiet up till now, I'm guessing they'll do a decent job of keeping the legalities equally quiet.

And since neither Meryl nor Don have ever been the sort to run to the press, I sincerely hope they won't suddenly start.

But then if one of them meets someone else, that can trigger the move to end the marriage. I watched this happen last year. The partner who left wasn't actively seeking a new relationship, it just fell in her lap and she went for it. It shocked everyone who knew her and her husband as a couple. But at a certain age I guess a lot of people suddenly decide they still have a lot of life to live and want to make the best of it.

I can envision a certain segment of people getting really upset over this, but I think you're spot on. Few married people want to admit that this sort of thing happens more regularly than they want to believe.

I agree with ahah that being home more caused the dissolution of their relationship and not necessarily a third party. I just don't want anyone to say their separation is for "attention", because that's absurd.
