I'd like to think if I was offered a large sum of money to speak at some random guy's bday party I'd at least take some time out of my busy schedule of sun tanning and yoga to google his name and find of who he is. Y'know did he make his money selling drugs to children or by inventing some wonder computer chip?

I don't have a strong opinion about Hilary Swank either way but this just smacks of greed and hoping no one would find out. Pretty stupid of her in this day and age.

I agree, but Beyonce danced for one of the Gaddafi family and she doesn't seem to be getting this level of criticism. Not that I'm defending Swank; I'm actually being critical of both of them.

They both certainly deserve harsh criticism but I think Swank is getting more of it right now because people have a really hard time believing that she didn't know any details about the man whose party she was paid to attend (not in the least, because Amnesty (?) sent her an open letter about him prior to the event). Bey Bey on the other hand? There seems to be a pretty widely held idea that she's not the brightest bulb and would just go where her management told her. I don't hold that view - I think she's much smarter than her public persona allows.

That's what I'm wondering - neither she nor someone on her team couldn't at least ask "Who the hell is this guy?" I mean, "Chechnya" alone should set off one or two alarm bells for someone her age who pays even minor attention to world news. The fact that she got a letter from Amnesty International kinda makes it inexcusable.

If you're that hard up for money, do Dancing with the Stars or something.

I wonder what the disagreement was about. She's made her apology and is donating her fees so they at least were in agreement about that aspect of her response to this PR crisis. I wonder if her PR team thinks she needs to go further to make amends and she disagrees and just wants to let it die? Or maybe it has something to do with not dumping her lawyer, who may have been the major player in this whole debacle?
