Anne Hathaway says at 32 she's too old for many roles. Good for her for bringing this up. I'm sure we can all agree that "ridiculous" doesn't begin to cover how nuts it is that 32 is not too old for anything. And it's not like she's playing high school students. No wonder everyone in Hollywood lies about their age. Magie Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain have talked about this, but they're a bit more character-y. It's good that someone who's pure leading lady (but still critically respected) is talking about this even though it now means every media outlet will dissect her looks and pronounce her "still fuckable" or "old hag".

I think the TV renaissance that's been going on for a few years now has a lot to do with famous movie actors refusing to be put out to pasture. On Once Upon a Time, all of the major female actors are in their 30s (hell, Ginny Goodwin is Snow White, a damsel if there ever was one, and she's pushing 40). Claire Danes has found a lot of success on Homeland. The Game of Thrones actors, male and female, are mostly not spring chickens. Doing TV used to be treated with disdain, but now better quality actors (who might be a little older) get better quality parts, and critical and commercial success has proved to coincide with that. And Anne is still a huge name; she may not get as many movie offers, but I think she'd do well in TV.
I predict in the next few years we're going to see the "big three" of 5 years ago (Scarlett, Natalie, and Anne) do at least some TV. Jennifer Lawrence too; hard to believe, but she's already 25. She's still in her young and hot phase, but that won't last forever.

I doubt her career is in any type of danger, at the moment. I feel like she's probably talking specifically about Jennifer Lawrence. I think Jennifer actually gets cast for a lot of things despite her age, not because of it. I'm not denying ageism exists, but I think Anne is in the Hollywood sweet spot right now with age, career success and respectability.
Incidentally, she's all over the place promoting. I looked at ONTD before coming here and there were four stories from four different sources on the first two pages.

I have to agree with her, we just watched Aloha( don't by the way waste of time) and rolled our eyes. No way that 20 something Emma Stone, who looks about 20 in this movie by the way, is believable playing an Air Force captain. Total miscast. Come on Hollywood.

I remember Aloha being a complete clusterfuck all around, not only with age-inappropriate casting, but also race inappropriate casting. Which brings up another issue; Anne, try being a woman of color and just about *any* age, forget about being in your 30s.

That's a pretty defeatist line of thinking. Just because you personally benefited in the past from something that was wrong doesn't mean have no right to complain about it now. Yeah, it's good that she's openly talking about this problem, but in the same breath she's excusing it, which is pretty annoying.

I think she's staving off the inevitable criticism. "Yeah, but you benefitted ten years ago! So you're a hypocrite! And therefore I've proven that ageism isn't a problem for women in Hollywood! So there!"
