I've always liked him very much as an actor, but I never knew he was such an utter, total, complete asshole! Going off like that wouldn't even be okay if he did it to another adult, let alone to his own 11 year old child. I'd like to say the usual "A little of the love died", but in this case, a BIG chunk of the love died. Jerkoff.
And you know, I didn't pay much attention to all this either - until I heard the tape on the news. It made my stomach churn when I heard how absolutely rage-filled he sounded.

So, Kim is wrong for releasing this tape to the media, but he can write a book about this whole mess? Hypocrite much?
He's complaining about Kim and parental alienation, but he's doing a great job of alienating Ireland himself. Would you really be looking forward to spending time with this guy? If he's like this on the phone, what is it like in person, when he is yelling this shit in your face?

This really is a complicated situation. I don't want to get into my childhood in details but I grew up in a household where my dad was very verbally abusive to my mom and sister, not to me though. If anyone thinks that has no effect on the "unabused" child, they are wrong. It has greatly determined my view of what marriage is, of what and how men are to this day. I won't even get into the anger issues it creates and inspite of being all self aware and all the self analysis and all the rational, it's very difficult to get rid of even at my age (early 30's). So the fact that he never hit his daughter or directly verbally abused her means nothing. On the other hand, I've known women who incited against the father for no good reason. I have no idea where the truth lies in this case and the obvious fact is that these two are in urgent need of psychiatric treatment. That poor kid will need a miracle to be able to live anything remotely close to a normal life.

I won't get into my childhood either, but the part of the phone call that freaked me out was his saying he would fly to ca and put her ass straight and fly back. That just sounded like a threat and no matter what, he shouldn't take his anger out on his daughter in that manner.
I can see her leaking it out onto the net though. Maybe Ireland had enough of her dad's abuse and the only way that he would stop is if it became public. I actually don't think that leaking out was a bad thing as some have thought here. If this is the only way to straighten him out, then so be it. If he's such a jackass, I'd rather see him humiliated in public than his daughter in private. And his apologies are stupid and worthless like his acting.

Let's not forget that he also told her she has no brains. I'm pretty sure he covered basically every area where young girls have insecurities. Good job, Alec.

Why is this family so F'ed up? And is Billy really normal? Is it possible that Chynna's normal (despite her own whacked out parents) and keeps him that way?
I can't believe his only defense is to now file a lawsuit to find out how the tape was leaked. I thought for sure he'd try to hit some anger management rehab. Does anyone remember his old Knot's Landing character? Not such a stretch, it seems..

You know, I wouldn't be surprised to find out that it was Ireland who leaked the tape. She is probably more computer/electronically literate than Kim is and may be familiar with sites like TMZ.
Note that Kim's comments about the release is "The tape speaks for itself".
Maybe Ireland had had similar messages from dear old Dad and wanted to get even. Or maybe she was afraid of what he would do when he saw her (his comments were pretty frightening).
Baldwin was WRONG in any case. His comments were directed toward his daughter, not the one giving him problems over the years (the wife). He's a real jerk.
If Ireland WAS the one who released the message, it may be payback for Daddy Dearest.
Only saying that it is a possibility, not that it's absolutely true.
Oh, and if you want a recap of recent Baldwin incidents, go to the TMZ.com site and they have a link to other Baldwin stores, including one about Daniel being wanted due to a car theft accusation and some other Alec stories.

Wow. That brings back memories of my father. Scary. Poor Ireland. It takes years of therapy to recover from a father like that - and you never really do. I always gave him the benefit of the doubt with Kim B. because she sounds a bit crazy too, but he, man, he is such a narcissist that he can't see that it isn't all about him and that his daughter needs a father not a manipulative ass in her life. Too bad I liked 3rd Rock. I won't be watching that again.
Also, I hope Ireland leaked it. That would be one way of claiming a sense of self and control.

Did anyone see Baldwin on Letterman imitating the way his daughter dances? He told Letterman that his daughter "is a dancer now." Then her got up an imitated Ireland doing a few ballet moves. Alec's point was that she would do this sort of thing in public and you got the impression that he was embarrassed/annoyed by it.
I wonder if Kim watches Letterman.

I think it was the "you don't have the brains or the human decency" that really got me. This is your pre-teen daughter dodging a phone call with you. Get a grip. That and the "Once again I've made myself look like an ass trying to get to a phone." It's not like he's filming in the Congo or some shit and needs access to a satellite phone.
I don't blame him for being pissed as hell, but his actions are way out of line. And calling to apologize doesn't just fix everything.
I agree with the posters that have said that there aren't any perfect parents and that kids can push your buttons. For me it wasn't the anger, frustration or yelling as much as the name-calling and trashing Kim. Being told you're inconsiderate, thoughtless or selfish isn't nice to hear, but sometimes it's true and you need to be called on it. Being told you have no brains or human decency or are a pig is different (unless it's because you won't clean your room and it's a science experiment!).
