Justine Bateman has a new book out, FACE, and says that celebrity plastic surgery is a Ponzi scheme. Which makes sense to me. You get the surgery to get the roles to pay for the surgery to get the roles. She looks great, I think. Not youthful and done up, but artistic and earthy. Though I am surprised that she's only fifty-five. Either modern medicine and products have really skewed our perceptions, or she maybe has taken the graceful aging thing a little too far into neglect. (Is she a smoker?) It’s interesting because I also thought that she looked older than 55 but then wondered if she was a smoker or a sun worshipper. Paulina Porizkova, who I follow on IG, also looks older than she is, too, and I thought maybe it’s because we are so used to seeing people in that industry normally made up so when we see them with their natural face, it’s a little more jarring. I don’t know but I’m definitely going to read her book. While I don’t have any plans to do anything about the aging process other than continue to dye my hair and wax hair I don’t need off of my face, I do have to work mentally to accept the older face that stares back at me in the mirror and not get to a point where I care too much. Could it be a combination of both perhaps? People ridicule women for attempting to stall or reverse aging, and they roast them for looking old. It is actually really sad.

I hope it doesn’t sound like I was roasting her. I think it was more that she’s one year older than me and my friends so when you see someone the same age not aging quite the same as people around you, your mind is curious as to what the differences might be. Though I can see why even going there is problematic and maybe not even speculating is something I should work on.

I meant society in general is cruel to women over 50.

I meant society in general is cruel to women over 50. No need to apologize! I was worried I sounded like I was roasting her when the reality is that I applaud people aging however they see fit (except I do find extremes really sad and wish people would step away from overdoing it). I completely agree with what you said; love that this book is out there and hope that it can help people accept the privilege of aging. Not everyone gets to.

Jason Bateman plays a crab man, a man with crab arms, who scuttles sideways, in the new Melissa McCarthy/Octavia Spencer super heroine movie, Thunder Force. He's good in the role, too. I enjoyed this movie.

I really enjoyed her first book about Fame, so am looking forward to this one too.

I love Jason Bateman. His podcast, Smartless, with Will Arnott and Sean Hayes is very good.

His scene in the alley with Rachel McAdams in Game Night always cracks me up.

I enjoyed this movie. I watched this with my kids Saturday night. I was surprised I enjoyed it as much as I did. It's quite silly but also funny. I liked Melissa and Jason together in Identity Theft, so it was fun to see them together again. I would do Crabman.
