Natalie's got two, and each sister has twins, oddly enough. One of the sisters has another child as well (Emily, I think.) I can't remember all the kids' names, but they are all things like Kathleen, Julianna and Jackson.

Can't. Stand. Them. I've hated their music since day one of their popularity. My Mom loves them and used to play their CDs all the time, which was a real pain in the ass. As far as the cries of censorship go, I'm unimpressed. Natalie Maines can't sing? Come on -- the woman attended the Berklee School of Music on a vocal scholarship. She can sing. I respectfully disagree. There are very few performers whose voices make me want to rip my ears off. Natalie is one of them.

That is very interesting about Clear Channel, I had always thought that it was just regular folk staging the protests. What a waste of time and business expenses.
Didn't both of the other gals (not Natalie) have twins?
ETA: Duh, how did I miss SLiz's post upthread?

Yeah - both Martie and Emily have a set of twins. I suspect because they were both having fertility problems and were in treatment for that (I know for sure Emily was because they talked about it in an interview, I'm guessing about Martie since it could run in the family), which can often result in multiple births.

Natalie's sons are Slade and Beckett not exactly normal names. Emily has a daughter named Julianna Tex.
Both sisters had in vitro to conceive.
BTW, they are scheduled to be interviewed by Steve Croft on 60 Minutes, May 14.

Well, Slade's name is actually Jackson Slade. I didn't know they call him by his middle name; that is ugly. Don't see what's so weird about "Beckett" though, it's listed in baby name books, and I'd heard of it before Natalie used it.

but I always thought it had more to do with not knowing their audience well-- Precisely -- it was about showing disrespect to a huge part of their audience. I've like their music in the past, FWIW.

Aww, I love the Dixie Chicks. They are awesome musicians -- I saw them on their last tour and it was a great show. I can totally understand why they wanted to voice their opinions overseas (particularly when I think back about what was happening at that time), and honestly as a fellow Texan I appreciated them pointing out that not everyone from here has the same political viewpoint. I also think part of the harsh response to what was said was because they are young women and the media (particularly Clear Channel) wanted to teach them a lesson.
That being said, Natalie has no neck and has had plenty of fashion disasters.

Too true. I always wonder what would look better on her than the styles she's been trying-- I think if she went with longer, darker hair and tried slightly more classic clothing (see: Sara Watkins from Nickel Creek, also no string bean) that she could be a knockout. But maybe that wouldn't be "edgy" enough?
One thing that's always bothered me about the Chicks is that they don't write most of their songs-- and the ones they do write kind of suck, imho. One of the things I love about country is its robust tradition of singer-songwriters; it's hard to respect people for getting their musical message out there when it's not really their music in the first place.

The Chicks do an instrumental number -- a bluegrass breakdown -- called "Little Jack Slade," so I'd always assumed that was what they called the kid, or just Jack ("Just Jack!" Jazz hands! .
