Well... Dixie is the nickname for the Confederate states. Thank you, that wasn't covered in my US History class back in 1980 and the things that were covered were so pro-USA they're pretty worthless now.

Hell, the only things that were covered in mine in the 90s were WWII and Vietnam over and over or at least it felt that way. My dad is a big history nerd, and from Texas, so I heard a tiny bit more, but not much! I thought it was kind of useless for them to change the name. No one will ever refer to them as The Chicks. "The Chicks." "Which ones?" "The DIXIE Chicks." etc.

I thought it was kind of useless for them to change the name. No one will ever refer to them as The Chicks. "The Chicks." "Which ones?" "The DIXIE Chicks." etc. This. I understand why they changed the name but they will always be the the Dixie Chicks.

I knew it was a nickname for the South but never thought it was racially compromised. Well... Dixie is the nickname for the Confederate states. "In Dixie Land" was the anthem for the Confederacy and there's a version of it posted on YouTube by an account called "Ku Klux Klan" - so I think that takes care of that topic! (FYI that's not the one I linked to - don't want to give them any traffic)
