I was wondering the same thing, ronette. I'm assuming she didn't have to go through proper channels because both parents were willing to give up custody.

Yeah, I looked into adopting a child from the West Indies a couple of years ago and IIRC, a UK Citizen has to be approved for adoption in the UK first. That was obviously never going to happen with Amy and I don't think she could have started any *legal* proceedings in St Lucia without it.

It's clear that Amy loved St Lucia and the people, but really, who in their right mind would give a child to Amy to look after? If Casey Johnson could adopt a kid, why not Amy? Casey was at least as messed up as Amy - and is now also deceased. I don't find Amy's alleged desire to adopt a kid that far-fetched, but obviously she wasn't in the right place in life to do so. Maybe she should have dropped out of the scene and had stayed in St. Lucia longer.

ITA on thinking the girl's family is out for some money... how long before they start petitioning the estate for support?

Actually, the toxicology reports *aren't* back. Amy's family is releasing this statement, and yet Scotland Yard is saying they haven't gotten the toxicology report yet so they can't comment. It's all very fishy to me. It seems to me like Amy's parents, in the tradition of Heath Ledger's family and Brittany Murphy's family, are going to make sure they can pin the death on anything other than drugs.

Would the parents hear from the coroner before the police? I have no idea.
Yeah, the parents were talking about how clean she had been, yet her mother also said she had recently seen Amy completely out of it. I don't know, I'd probably take that route of denial too if I'd lost a child.

If it's not drugs then why shouldn't families want to set the record straight? But the toxicology reports are going to be released eventually and will tell the story either way.
