Heart attack seems most likely if drugs and alcohol aren't found in his system, which I personally find sadder because there's a possibility that if he hadn't been alone (and if drowning is the official cause, if he hadn't been in a hot tub), medical intervention could have saved him. Y'all be careful getting into a hot tub, jacuzzi, or hot bath when you are alone! Matthew Perry, Whitney Houston, Bobbi Kristina Brown, Naya Rivera, Dolores O'Riordan - all accidental drownings, and Whitney and Dolores were known to have substances in their system. Over 50 folks sometimes have undiagnosed heart issues. Be freaking careful in the water!

They've completed the autopsy, but pending toxicology results. I clearly don't know enough about law enforcement, but it gives me pause when I read that the homicide-robbery detectives are handling the case and that "no foul play" is suspected. Is that normal? If Michael Connelly books are to be believed, I think the Robbery Homocide unit of LAPD is automatically assigned to handle celebrity deaths. This is absolutely, 100% true in Los Angeles.

That’s interesting about Dax Shepherd said about Matthew. I was surprised when reading his book, how recently he had become sober. I had thought his addiction was further in his past. The last chapter of the book is called Batman. I can’t remember why. And in his latest social media, he kept posting Batman stuff and calling himself Mattman. I noticed those social media posts and thought they were a little off. And one of them was a picture of him in the hot tub. I have to say I figured he would be the first of the six to go, but just not this soon. Didn’t he have a serious health issue a few years ago? Sepsis or something? Was it a stomach issue? Whatever it was it almost killed him. And it bothers me to no end that the antivaxxers have been out in full force. Ugh.

He was comatose for a while.

He had pancreatitis, which is incredibly painful in addition to being life-threatening, as a result of alcohol abuse, as well.

There has been some speculation that my pancreatic cancer is related to my alcohol abuse. I drank for about 6 years, and stopped 36 years ago. It's pretty disheartening to look back at those kinds of long-term effects for something you did in your teens. Full disclosure, I suspect the 30 years of Diet Coke and McDonalds are the more likely culprits.

It was really lovely. I'm shocked at the continuing sadness I'm feeling over his death. Honestly, I never would have guessed it would hit this hard. I guess it's that we're so close in age, how hard he fought to get/stay clean. And knowing that clean or not, his past drug use probably contributed to his early death. It just seems so senseless.

I think it is very understandable that you and others are feeling such strong emotions in this instance. Adding to the factors you've listed, there's also the element that has been stated in the past with regards to TV stars vs movie stars - since we watch TV in the comfort of our homes, people tend to form more of a connection to those stars. We "hang out" with them n our own homes, in comfortable clothes lounging around. They start to feel like more a part of our lives as opposed to movie stars on a big screen who seem so much more untouchable. So I think it's very understandable after forming that "bond" with a person who came into our living rooms for so many years (and heck, lots of us watch from our beds too!) that the emotions felt from the loss can be very real.
