I'm confused? how was ketamine being used as a treatment for Perry? I thought it was used in therapy under supervision, but is it actually prescribed for self-medicating? Ketamine treatments used in a psychological instance are always under the supervision of the prescribing doctors. (In session.) At least that's what I thought. I don't know that it's actually prescribed as a pill to people to use at home under their own supervision. I also have a hard time with the framing that he was sober if he was taking ketamine in any form. While there is some evidence that ketamine treatments in a clinical setting can help with other addictions, it is still a controlled substance and a. tranquilizer.

Reading his descriptions of using ketamine from his book, it would not surprise me at all if he was using it on his own. The therapeutic usages could easily have given him enough rationalization to pretend he was self medicating. His description of using the drug sounds very much like how I remember drinking. '...like getting hit with a happy shovel.'

Elon Musk takes a lot of ketamine. From what I understand, it is prescribed for him by a doctor for depression but he sure as heck is not taking it as prescribed. That guy is off his rocker. Not to hijack this thread, but when I read about the cause of Perry's death I thought that maybe something similar can happen to Elon Musk. It makes me really nervous that the world's richest man is paranoid and re-platforming people like Alex Jones.

The therapeutic usages could easily have given him enough rationalization to pretend he was self medicating. Which would be sadly ironic because if I remember correctly, his drug addiction issues started with prescription meds.

I suspect you're right.
Back in the 90s, I knew people who took Special K on the club scene in NYC. So I was surprised years later when I learned it was being used as a therapeutic thing for some people fighting addicitions. I've had friends who have taken Ketamine in a supervised psychological way, and they've moved onto Ayahuasca and Kambo with a shaman.
I know that there is word of mouth that all of these can be used to treat PTSD, and some people use them to fight addiction. It seems backwards to me to use substances of these nature to work against addiction, but I'm open to more medical studies.
But I also agree that you're right... it's a smaller step to jump to taking it unsupervised and justifying it as medicine once you've started down that road. And people prone to addictions will make that jump pretty easily.

I think you can get ketamine "prescribed" online for use at home, basically alone. It bills itself as ketamine therapy but you're not directly, physically in the care of a doctor. (It seems like a terrible idea, tbh.)

When I think about lol the precautions and special monitoring I have to put in place to give ketamine to a patient at work, and just how unpredictable the results can be, I just shake my head at anyone dumb enough to use the stuff recreationally.

Also, he took it and then got in a hot tub. Hot tubs can make even perfectly healthy people who are not under the influence of anything feel faint. I could absolutely see someone taking a powerful drug and then through the combined effects of overheating, drugs, and coronary artery disease passing out and drowning.
