He had pancreatitis, which is incredibly painful in addition to being life-threatening, as a result of alcohol abuse, as well. There has been some speculation that my pancreatic cancer is related to my alcohol abuse. I drank for about 6 years, and stopped 36 years ago. It's pretty disheartening to look back at those kinds of long-term effects for something you did in your teens. Full disclosure, I suspect the 30 years of Diet Coke and McDonalds are the more likely culprits. And, you know, sometimes people who “did everything right” come down with it as well. Only thing that matters now is living your best life. I’m glad you’re here. ❤️

We're just glad you're still here.. and honestly, sometimes cancer, or heart attacks, or COPD, or getting hit by a bus are just the luck of the draw. You can do everything right, never make a mistake, and *bam* your genetics decides to drop a bomb

I agree with Sunnyhorse. My stepmother was the cleanest living woman, did everything right, and she had pancreatic cancer.

I agree with Sunnyhorse. My stepmother was the cleanest living woman, dud everything right, and she had pancreatic cancer. I need to co-sign this. I worked in a GI surgery for years. While I obviously have only anecdotal data sometimes horrid illnesses including pancreatic cancer just happen. I remember when the cast of Friends came to London. It was madness. Even if one was not a fan of the show it was such an iconic thing. It's so sad he had to go out like this.

Actor Matthew Perry's death was an accident caused by the "acute effects of ketamine," LA medical examiner says.
'The County of Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner (DME) determined the cause of death for 54-year-old actor Matthew Langford Perry as the acute effects of ketamine,' the Los Angeles coroner's office said.
'Contributing factors in Mr Perry’s death include drowning, coronary artery disease and the effects of buprenorphine (used to treat opioid use disorder). The manner of death is accident.'

Kind of like how some cancer treatments can kill people. (I'm a cancer survivor, so just pointing out that his treatment being a factor in his death is sad, but unsurprising.)

I'm confused? how was ketamine being used as a treatment for Perry? I thought it was used in therapy under supervision, but is it actually prescribed for self-medicating?

Ketamine has been in some clinical trials as a treatment for treatment-resistant depression and PTSD.

I read that his last treatment had been some days before his death, so he should not have had any in his system. I know someone who is receiving ketamine treatments and she is very closely supervised. There’s no way she’d be given any to take at home, in a hot tub, without medical staff nearby. It sounds like he was using it recreationally.
“His last known treatment was more than one week prior to death, but the medical examiner determined ‘the ketamine in his system at death could not be from that infusion therapy, since ketamine’s half-life is 3 to 4 hours, or less.’ “
